As you can see from Boyo's pics, it's a beautiful jacket and the leather is typically gorgeous for a Himel jacket. It looks great on him and he's a big guy. The problem is with the typical Orvis fit, which is always on the (very) large size, even when considering that they only size in...
Tim's been sending me photos of my new whiskey for the last few days and has just posted a couple on his IG site. Beyond words. Bolthead will be posting pics here soon. It's in the mail!
They do a very nice hemp Stratoliner, of which I have two that I love. Both are very light and their leather sweatbands are extremely comfortable and soft. I'm toying with the idea of a green one at the moment. Best of all, you can customize your crown height, brim length, ribbon, etc.
I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I constantly find myself saying, "Oh, man, I've got to get one of those" - and then realizing I already have one. Is this a bad sign?
All the best. I think you'll really like the hat. Personally, I don't think of a Fed IV as in any way a big hat. With a Camp Draft, because it's based on the Open Road design, you're on your way to a cowboy hat, but the Fed I consider fairly civilized.
That's exactly what drew me to them. In a month or so the hot and steamy weather will come oozing in here and stay until next November, and for most of that time you get sudden, catastrophic downpours. It makes me a little wary of wearing my more expensive straws, but, price-range wise, there's...
I'm not sure I understand your point. I assume you did your research and saw the comments here about Stu's horsehide, and, from your own comments, it's plain that you got exactly what you asked for. So what's the beef?
I had a good laugh reading this, as you're absolutely right. I grew up right across the harbor over in Elizabeth but lived in Bay Ridge for many years, and I must say it was probably my favorite out of all the places I've lived. I lived in the 5-story building right on the corner of Bayridge...
Thanks for the tip - I'd never heard of them. How's the sweatband? A couple of the hats I have with cloth sweatbands I've found to be irritating to my skin, particularly in the warm weather. Sort of itchy and uncomfortable. Any feelings about it?
You're right. Once you get the hat you'll get the idea. Mine came with a C-crown, so I just left it as is. The brim I ran under the tap for a minute or so, shaped it, and left it to dry for about an hour. It keeps the shape: I might have adjusted it once during the first ten minutes.
It torments me to see some of the jackets in the Classifides (like the LW Suburban currently appearing), see they're in my size and at a reasonable price, and realize they'd be too warm for most of the year in this tropical miasma. Then the other day I saw a black Headwind A1 in goat in exactly...
^ That's what I was thinking. I was a bit surprised you didn't mention the Fed IV, as it sounds as though that might be just the hat for you. Akubras are the best bet for brand name or mass manufactured fur felt hats. I'd start with them, and then keep your eyes on the custom makers. Welcome.
I'll definitely post some pics (a first). I just couldn't say no to this one: astonishing price, a design I've admired for some time, and it's exactly in my size. When the gods speak, well, you know.
