The last TV Show I watched: Been re-watching (as I do every few months it seems) my all-time favorite series, Showtime's 1993-95 original FALLEN ANGELS. There are 12 episodes in all. The first six were released for a limited time on VHS back in the late '90s. The later six were never released...
Poor old Lucy. Everybody hates on Lucy, but back before her I Love Lucy days, Lucille Ball was quite a good actress, and quite a looker too I might add. I loved her in Dark Corner, her only film noir and one she herself hated.
I'll keep my list limited to films made since the Golden Age that are a recreation of that time period, because of actual period films there are just too many good ones to name.
1. Miller's Crossing
2. Last Man Standing
3. Road To Perdition
4. L.A. Confidential
5. Dead Men Don't Wear...
I love the way they do nearly the same thing at the beginning of The Hunt For Red October where the crew of the October starts out conversing in Russian but then transitions into English a few minutes in.
I'm still on a run of short crime fiction. Finished the Mammoth books. Now reading a hardcover collection called Hard-Boiled, an anthology of American crime stories.
I rarely wear my good fedoras out anywhere unless I have an occasion to wear a suit as well, but even when I wear one of my beaters with jeans and a jacket I always get comments and compliments from people. They for sure notice.
That's kinda sad, Bruce. Maybe you should make a pointed effort to find new friends who share your interests.
As to the question: I dine alone on occasion in fine restaurants for lunch and think nothing of it. Sometimes I simply get tired of fast food and have to have something better, and...
The eyeglasses I wear the most, as seen in the photo below, I purchased used from an Unclaimed Baggage outlet for $5, and just happened to already have lenses very close to my own prescription. So close that I've never bothered to change them. I have no idea about the brand or if they are true...
How about Moonshine? With "Moonshiners" and other (so-called) reality shows about illegal distilling on TV nowadays, I have seen a huge resurgence in white-lightning within the past year or two. Seems everyone knows someone who has a still these days. I even have a few clients who now regularly...
I hate when people only associate black suits with funerals. Around here people rarely wear suits to funerals anymore. Last funeral I attended I wore a dark gray pinstripe and was about the only person there in a proper suit besides those officiating the service. A few men wore sport coats, the...
I think Hollywood still sets fashion trends and standards more than most people want to admit. With the resurgence of "hat pictures" in recent years (period films and TV shows set in the Golden era), I think the general public are slowly starting to realize how sharp a man in a hat (and suit)...
Home theater equipment keeps getting bigger, better, and more affordable while movie theaters have gone from the opulent movie palaces of the past to cheap megaplexes with bland auditoriums, stadium seating and smaller screens, to which they charge $12 admission. And they wonder why there's a...
On the left is the original Dark Passage suit to which I was referring. Yours looks to be very close. I also have one that looks almost identical which I purchased new off eBay a few months ago.
Came across a term today while reading a short story from the 1930s that you most certainly don't hear anymore: a black female was referred to as a Negress.
