If the guy is going to wear a Nazi uniform, he should at least learn how to wear it correctly. The insignia looks like a mix-match of just whatever he happened to fancy.
I don't know if this has been touched on in this thread or not, but one thing that's a sure sign of our times that I don't believe existed (nor was there much need for it) in the Golden Era, was tamper-proof mechanisms on just about all food, beverages, and over-the-counter medications.
Tonight's menu at Crunk Manor: home-cooked blackened tilapia with a side of penne with pico de gallo, chicken, 4 cheese blend, and southwest chipotle dressing.
You can have the UFC. There is simply nothing about two sweaty, almost naked men rolling around together on a canvas mat while pounding each other to a pulp that interests me whatsoever.
A vintage typewriter is a must-have for putting together my Golden-Era style home office. I must start looking for one soon. Since it won't actually be used it doesn't need to be in absolute working order.
I inherited my father's shaving kit but haven't thought of it in years. Maybe it's time to break it out and put it to use. Can you still buy blades for double-sided safety razors?
I get the feeling that eating/dining is one area in which we are a lot more extravagant than our Golden Age counterparts. Especially when it comes to inventive ways to use bacon.
A free vintage diner would be great, but transporting one (in two pieces no less) from New York to Northern Alabama would seem to be a bit cost prohibitive. I'm thinking more along the lines of scratch-building the thing pre-fab style in my back yard, then transporting it to the site in two...
Tonight it was Chinese take-out at Crunk Manor. The wife is sick and I didn't feel like cooking either. I still have an egg foo young left if anyone wants it.
I'm still waiting to hear from a $400 insurance claim I filed in Feb. and have yet to be contacted at all, despite several inquiries. My local post office tells me they've sent it up the chain of command and there's nothing more they can tell me or do about it. I've also had mail carriers leave...
We have a small place called Staggs Grocery that has remained pretty much unchanged since the 50s or 60s. They still have a lunch counter that serves up a legendary local burger that remains unchanged as well.
The photo on the right shows the front part of the store. The groceries are in the back.
All the while growing up I'd heard we were of German decent, and figured our family name was originally Krunk, or Krank. In recent years I've come to learn that the German heritage came in from my great grandmother's side of the family, and that our family name is actually English, original...
Last night I watched the final episode of a 3-part documentary series called "Prohibition", which originally aired on PBS (I watched it on Netflix streaming). I really enjoyed seeing all the archival footage of 1920s and '30s style, but what struck me the most about it was how closely the debate...
