Personally I don't think a shorter tie looks all that bad. Ties don't HAVE to touch the belt. That's just the norm these days. But I think a gap of three our four inches looks fine.
Just curious LizzieMaine, do you attend church regularly, and if so, what kind? I can't imagine any church that would not expect tithing, under Mosaic Law or not.
I don't tithe either, but then I don't go to church. If I did, I'd probably be compelled to put something in the plate when it was...
Being absorbed in your own world, reading a newspaper (or checking your iphone/ipad), while surrounded by strangers on a train is one thing. But kids sitting down at a restaurant table together, then conversing through social media instead of interacting with those right there in front of them...
Really hated to hear about Clancy passing, especially at such a relatively young age. Lucky for me I'm so far behind on his books (currently about one quarter through The Bear and The Dragon) I'll still be reading Clancy for years to come.
Been watching a lot of MeTV lately. If you haven't yet heard of it or don't get the channel in your area, it's all classic TV shows from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, 24 hours a day.
My new (looks to be '50s vintage) Portis Lite-Wate that I picked up at a local flea market for less than $4. (see my post in "Post New Hats Here" thread for details)
Was driving past an open-air flea market the other day when I spotted what looked to be a table full of hats. I pulled in to take and look and found these fedoras among them. The fellow was asking $4 each for them but I got them for even less, as I ended up buying the three hats plus three pair...
Just the other day I saw a lady post a houndstooth Bear Bryant-style "derby" for sale on a local facebook auction group. I so wanted to correct her that it was a trilby, which is sort of a stingy-brimmed fedora, NOT a derby. I guess I have truly become a hat snob.
UPDATE: My Crock Pot Chicken & Dumplings was preempted when my father-in-law returned from a fishing trip with a huge string of crappie and bass, and invited us over to partake. Fresh caught corn-battered fish filets, homemade steak fries, hushpuppies and coleslaw. I guess the dumplings will be...
One term I've only heard used once, in film (The Maltese Falcon), but the term "crackin' foxy" has always stuck with me. Was it ever a commonly used phrase, or just Hollywood word-play?
Don't know much about him off-screen, and really not much about his recent on-screen roles either, but Anthony Michael Hall bears a striking resemblance to McQueen in a few things I've seen him in.
COOKING NOW: Crock Pot Chicken & Dumplings. Only three ingredients: chicken breast strips, one large can of Cream of Chicken soup, and two cans of Grands southern-style biscuits. Plus salt and pepper to taste. Not exactly made-from-scratch like Grandma's, but cheap, simple and very tasty.
No one is "entitled" to anything except the freedom to tend to their own needs. But in a country that's as prosperous as the United States likes to claim to be: food, shelter, and basic health care should be available to anyone who needs it.
1. I'm 47
2. I've had some college, but no degree...
