Hi Andy,
Thanks for the kind words. There is a topic in the WW2 section called windproof smocks. There is a good discussion about them and more information from myself and others if you care to look.

And yes, they are all original. The...
These are also lethal in wet weather - especially if you're not wearing wool underneath.
However, don't tell me they're not cool !! :-)
I also have an anorak from a very early Antarctic expedition which is made of the same cotton as the desert smock above. They were never meant...
Hi Paul,
The Barbour Durham was the preferred Barbour in the Army. Although they did make one in DPM camouflage (which was also lined) too for a while. The Durham, being unlined, was great for going under the camo smock and took up little space in the belt order / webbing.
The angled pocket...
That's a fair distinction and one which I totally agree with. My posting wasn't aimed at the makers. Fake and repro are the same thing to me in this context although one is different to the other when it comes to buying and selling or mis-representing something.
And fake or repro, either...
Some photos

Cooperson, I asked for the side panels to be tapered - I need the shoulder width.
The tartan was called a 'New York' or 'New York Police' or some such. I'll check the delivery note to see if it's specified.
Felix, thanks mate !! The bike is a 2005 Kawasaki W650. A very modern looking...
I can see that flyers who wore Mae Wests would have the collar up to stop the hard rubber fabric chafing their necks. Practical, eh ?
As to judging people visually and without regard to knowing them and context ...... ? Predjudices like that lead to Fascism, racism and a whole lot of other...
Having a collar up never bothered James Dean or Brando or a thousand and one other people.
I don't think a collar up of itself says anything. You might also argue that people who have everything just so are a little too retentive of the bottom regions and take more time over their appearance...
Nice jacket Andy !! I had one myself but it proved a bit too heavy. Always loved the style and one day I fancy one of those in a russett goat......
Fit is spot on and the colour of the hide was made for jeans or chino's.
BTW, what are those boots you've got one ? They look a bit like my...
Not sure Edward. I've had several over the years and they all had bar codes and were metric sized so prbably 80's onwards. There are a lot on the surplus market and have been for several years so I reckon they must have been superceded. I also have a black, nylon, armoured MoD issue jacket too...
Hi Edward ,
The custom label was something Will offered me. Not sure if it's standard. You know how it is with Aero, they do all the extras you want and don't seem to charge much- if anything - for them.
The two pockets internally with one zipped and t'other press stud was Will's idea. I...
Here's one of my Barbour Intls. This is the military issue one. Size 46" / 117cms. Bloody difficult to photograph well !! I have the trousers as well. I fins I need 2 sizes up on my real waist to get a good fit where I can raise my leg high enough to mount the bike lol

Hi,
Here's a few photos of my new Aero Highwayman custom. I had 2 angled chest pockets added, the lower ones zippered closure too, one inside zip closing chest pocket and on the other side a press stud closing one. I also had a press studded tab added to the bottom front of the zip and had the...
I'm sure that there was something similar in the UK about 20 odd years ago but it wasn't meant to be a faithfull re-creation of teh actual experience. More an old Army camp with a few mock guards and the chance to try to escape. Don't know what happened to that as I never heard of it after.
I...
So that means you are a member of the VLJ too ? Likewise ! :) I've seen your ad' there. I've a Star ELC A-2 and a Star G-1 plus a new Aero Highwayman custom job all due at my house today !
So someone else who fights with his wife over jackets and bikes then !!!
Dave
Hello Jack !!
Yep tis I :) Nice to see you on here as well as the W650 forum. Fellow bikers and jacket nuts, eh ?
I love my International suits. Suprisingly warm with a fleece underneath. Although with the roads now gritted and salted I had my last rides on the Dub last Weds and Sat and...
As far as I'm aware, the khaki smock, windproof was only used in the Aegean, Greece and Italy by the SBS / SRS / SAS and not in North Africa. The camo one was used by all sorts in the winter of '44 -'45 including ATS and infantry soldiers like my dear departed grandfather. Incidentally, he told...
I just checked the SOF site and they don't seem to have any Mechanic's sweater. They used to. Same colouring as their 5 button ones but plain V-neck cut.
Eastman Leather Clothing sometimes carry some too but are frequently out of stock.
