More vintage gloves
Some more of my gloves. First a pair of USN WW2 gloves / mitts. Goatskin with wool lining.
Second, a pair of F-2 electrically heated gloves. These are beautiful. A little moth-eaten in the lining but i'll live with that for $30. ;)
Cheers,

Synthetics
Another point against synthetics that was amply illustrated to me as a young soldier was that synthetics and heat / fire do not mix. If you have a tent fire or a stove flameup, your synthetics will melt and stick to your skin. That holds the heat against your skin longer and removes...
"Cotton kills" my ass
Cotton AGAINST THE SKIN in COLD weather kills. No doubt. But that is because cotton does not transmit your sweat (or rain if your w/proof is no good) away from the skin. Therefore it conducts your body heat away from you and into warming up the wet garments up to the...
Poooo
I've had years of itchy wool thermals as a kid, then used Helly Hansen Lifa stuff for years. I put up with the fact that after the first wear of synthetics, you stink like you've been out for weeks without a wash. And that every time you put them on clean, you stink like hell after...
ventile
Hi CP,
Personally I would recommend a mid weight ventile (as I have on my orange anorak and make it a single layer. If you really want 2 layer, go for the shoulder region only.
Like yourself I come from the Showell Styles era and fashion for kit and clothing. I prefer a couple of...
Run-off
Hi CP,
I've found that 2 layer is too bulky and sweaty - even for a natural material. Rain doesn't exactly 'soak-in' and I don't find the jackets get wet or even damp on the inside. Nor does rain run down off it like with gore-tex and the other waterproof materials. If it's raining...
Hi
Hi Creeping,
Check out the modified Westwinds and original Westwinds anoraks I have. I recommend both. There' more about them in the anoraks tgread. The other plus is that they don't weigh a lot to have t stuff themin your pack.
in olive green with two bellows chest and two bellows...
Hiding
I remember reading that there was a group of Japanese soldiers hinding on Iwo Jima until 1949. That may or may not be a long time but when you consider that Iwo is only 8 square miles. AND that it was crawling with US servicemen AND what condition underground must have been like in terms...
parasuits
You're not getting confused with the Irvin Parasuit are you ? That was a really complicatd piece of hit that was like a pair of coveralls with the arms and legs removed, with a pair of full length zippers and had the parachute harness and mae west incorporated into it.

Deck jackets
As autumn is upon us and winter isn't far away, I thought I'd re-start this thread. I recently bought a Buzz Rickson deck jacket, the short one. It's an incredibly warm and practical jacket. Ideal for driving. It's lined like the originals with some kind of cellulose (?) membrane...
Ventile anoraks
Hi All,
Here's the first couple of photos of what could (for an anorak head like myself) be a LOT of photos !lol
The first is the lighter weight olive green 'BAS Anorak' as sold by Westwinds direct and by SOFmilitary.co.uk . It's a great anorak although I think that the 2...
ELC goat
Steve,
Of the three photos of the ELC A-2, which is truest to the actual colour ? I like the reddish russet in the middle photo but it's not clear what the true colour is.
Thanks,
Dave
Photos of GT's as promised
Sorry but I didn't have time to buff them up tonight !!
Hope they come out o.k.
I should say though that they take some serious breaking in. I wore mine wet for two days. startingoff with the top two pairs of eyelets undone and gradually working up to...
