JFK was a pivotal figure of the era, and with his boyish good looks and full head of hair, it's easy to say he was the cause of the dropoff in men's hat wearing. I agree he wasn't the singlemost cause, but I daresay he contributed to the change.
As for folks being envious, there may be one or...
I get mixed reactions. Until recently, if I wore a hat at all it was either a running cap or beanie, or a baseball cap. I hate what they do to my thin, wispy hair up top, but I've become even more irritated by what the wind and rain do. So, I've reverted to my youth, when I used to wear those...
Thanks, Mike. I take the word "vintage" with a grain of salt. It's nice to know that I didn't just buy some mass-market knock-off from China! The reason I bought it was the long oval sizing, and now that it's been on the old bean, I'm pretty sure it's going to get a lot of time there!
It's here, and long oval is definitely the way I'm going from now on! This is going to be my first "project" hat, as the hat band is stained and warped a bit, and I find it a bit bland. It looks like it's hooked into the hat, which should make removing it easy.
I bought some supplies to...
Cindy, I don't know you or Daniel, and have only recently joined this forum, so I hope you don't mind if I offer the two of you up in prayer. You seem to have gotten "it" -- that life isn't a dress-rehearsal.
There is a saying I'm sure you've heard: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a...
Ha! As if.
Nah, I've long considered myself to be one of those "parallel parked in a diagnonal universe" type of people.
Most days you'll see me in jeans, running shoes, some collarless shirt and a nice fedora. Is it a style? Yes. It's my style.
There seem to be two sites that cover just about everything paracord: Paracord Planet and Paracord Galaxy (gee, how original these folks must be).
I went out during lunch today to a craft store and bought two skeins (is that how they're referred?) of 16' 550 paracord in different colors...
I've looked at Panama Hats Direct, but they don't have a grosgrain ribbon that appeals to me. The Knox is a darker straw and I want something that accents it well without being bland.
The paracord isn't so much about making a hatband as it is about starting a new hobby. It's inexpensive and...
Boy, I love this thread. It's a "catch-all" for topics I can't find by searching the forum! :D
So here's my question du jour: My Knox New York Vintage Shop straw fedora is due to arrive tomorrow. I bought it knowing the hat band was stained. My first thought was to try to clean it, but...
