Fern is my absolute favorite color in the Akubra line-up. I've been eyeing those fern Banjo Patersons at the Hattery for a while, and would have pulled the trigger had they had my size. I think it's a very special, limited-edition for the Banjos and I really hope that they do a restock at some point. I'm thinking a Banjo Paterson is my next purchase.
I already have a Banjo in Graphite, I love the style and the Fern color was too good to pass up.

I scored a vintage Snowy River for $43 USD last month. It has the gold-key, size tag and I guess it's about 25 years old. It came curled up quite a bit on the sides, so I've now learned to steam hats over a kettle! That was a first. I flattened it out some, and prefer this look. Also raised the crown so it didn't touch the top of my head, and curled the back and front down more. Then I shrunk the sweatband a bit by wetting it with cold water. The plan is to use it as a beater for my daily walks. It's my 3rd Akubra and joins my Traveller and Stylemaster. Here's a before and after.

I splurged today and ordered a new Akubra from the Hattery. They had a limited edition Fern colored Banjo Paterson that I have had my eye on for a while. I ordered the last size 60 today, I checked after I ordered and it said 60 was out of stock now. Looking forward to this one.

This is an Akubra Drover I purchased in 1991. I bought it new, open crowned. I put the peak on it as well as all of the miles. It has survived rain, snow, hail, the high-altitude sun of New Mexico's mountains, as well as many untimely dismount's from horses. The Imperial rabbit fur felt is as crisp as the day I bought it!
I can't speak to the quality of today's Akubras as I don't own one, but as for the oldies, I can give them my personal gaurantee - you will likely have a trusted friend for life.

It's been many, many years since I've worn the hat in an actual working situation, but back when I did, it was nice having the cord. It always came in handy when the weather started changing quickly.
