One moderator says the thread has been locked because has run its course (whatever that means) and another moderator instead says that it’s been locked because it needs to be pruned of inaccuracies and then it’ll be re-opened (?). It seems like 2 different messages to me...
I’m certainly...
+1 on merging the threads. Actually I think it would be nice to have a thread per maker (one for Aero, one for Thedi, one for RMC, etc) so it would be easier to know where to look.
Anyway, I agree that the d-pocket could look better but I wonder if the creases are also partly due to the leather...
I thought sheepskin was the LL traditional leather. Most vintage LL are sheep as far as I know. That said even the newest LL only have a “genuine hide” tag (mine from 2017 at least came like that and it was HH).
It’s not a bad fit but yeah as much as I hate long sleeves these are way too short...
CXL plus hookless don’t probably mix too well especially when the jacket is new and the leather stiff. Plus I think Aero zippers can sometimes be a bit too buried in leather. Hookless aren’t fragile per se but if you don’t engage them properly at the start you are set for troubles. Aero were...
I’m with Jin, much better the placement on the Aero X LVC. It looks more balanced to my eye.
I too never use it though so mostly aesthetic for me too.
LOL at Simon Crompton being a twat! I always saw him like a nice guy to be honest. He proposes a very safe/boring style in my opinion and...
Whoops I missed this! I’m a UK8/EU42/US9 normally. I’ve a pair of Attractions, one of Clinch and one of Trophy Clothing engineers (same a s Attractions) that I could part with (though the TC would fit a UK8.5 if not 9). I’m not in a rush to sell but if of any interest to anyone we can discuss...
Thanks all! Very interesting insights and definitely quite some material to look into.
I’m kind of saturated with engineer boots (I have too many and need to unload a few pairs) but I haven’t much of other styles of boots, just a pair of White’s and a pair of Red Wing huntsman. I feel like I...
I’m completely out of the loop regarding Indonesian boot makers and everyday it seems like I read about a new one.
Is anybody up to make a list of makers with some pro and cons for each?
I was going to say the same thing. It depends on the treatment and some can’t be applied to the hide before being cut into a jacket. For instance burnishing the edges and distressing can only be done at the end.
Hmmm cow? He’s looking at 2 HH jackets from The Real McCoy’s made out of Shinki.
They look different as they have been finished differently but without more details is difficult to know why. As others have said Shinki HH doesn’t all look alike because it goes through different tanning methods...
My Aero jackets were a mixed bag regarding wavy zippers. Hooch hauler pretty obvious:
I think with their lighter leathers the waviness is more apparent from the start with CXL it takes some time.
Look at this example on the sale page...
Not sure is this is necessary to make the jacket...
I’m pretty sure Aero machinists can be trained to stitch as densely as any others if the company wanted to. It is a deliberate decision.
On the other hand, while I know close to zero about garment making, there are plenty of example of jackets that don’t fall apart (both new and vintage) that...
All valid points and I’m the first to appreciate a neatly constructed jacket with a high stitch count, just wondering whether this approach of putting everything under a magnifying glass is bringing any more enjoyment to the table... or sucking a bit of fun out of this hobby after all. Not...
The reputation of the most revered jacket on TFL destroyed just like that with a few super imposed red arrows pointing out its intrinsic flaws... I wonder if we were happier back then when we didn’t know... :-)
“Most” clearly doesn’t mean “all”.
Thedi is indeed quite unique but more in terms of finishing of the leather, canvas/leather combinations etc. rather than design. Most Thedi designs are strongly influenced by a particular vintage jacket.
Field Leathers... lovely stuff and great...
