I disagree Marc... most custom jackets seen here have an OTR counterpart. They are all repros of some sort or a mishmash of 30s-50s designs. I’d say this is quite an objective statement.
I appreciate that some people like having an input in things like liners, stitch colour etc. I enjoyed the...
Becoming unhappy after years of owning the jacket it’s a bit of a different case I suppose. I wouldn’t contact the maker probably just move it on. I don’t see the point in owning something that I don’t really like.
Anyway, I think the question in the opening post applies only immediately after...
As a foreigner living in the UK for 10 years I got the grip of this Scottish vs English vs Welsh etc but for most people abroad it is well... complicated. You are part of the same nation (ok it’s a union of nations but when it comes down to international relationships it’s one), you have...
I went on Himel website early this morning and noticed Carlos pic on the home page as well and found it quite funny. I wonder whether he’s gonna update the review with his post above... :)
I don’t even know what we are talking about here anymore but I think Himel jackets are pretty awesome. Call it hype but after seeing and handling my fair share of leather jackets every time I see a Himel I see quality.
The only reason I don’t have one is because they are so damn expensive...
Talking of jerky...I’ve got my Hooch Hauler in 2019 in seal from what I understand was one of the first few batches using the “new jerky formula”. I assume this is the one they are still using. At the time I was told this was engineered to fade faster although I find the process not silly fast...
Leather trench coats and generally long leather coats imho pretty though to pull off, like a couple of tiers above a grizzly. Also very 70s reminiscent of course (not a bad thing in itself but it can turn real bad real quick).
For my taste, this guy rocks it (not a trench coat but similar concept)
I like RRL and their leather jacket designs imho are pretty cool. I’m not going to argue that the leather is as nice as what we normally discuss here or the tag prices are justified but there is imho also a bit of snobbery as in “nothing good can come out from mainstream brands”.
RRL is one of...
I think the discussion that came out of this has been interesting. Imho if someone wanted to buy a Himel yesterday he still does today, or at least I think he should.
Above you write:
“... I started this thread to point out that the internet has a way of creating a positive or negative...
I don’t think it’s a Japanese trend as such but rather a modern trend (that’s being going on for a while). It just happens that we are looking at Japanese makers of leather jackets which are not making repros but rather modern re-interprations (there is a difference). The Japanese have been...
I think the biggest hype on TFL at the moment, although I’ve got a feeling it has entered a decline phase already, is 5*. There I said it. I messed up my order with them and it was entirely my own fault but to me even at that price point the leather (premium goat) is really meh.
But it’s part...
It’s not a Freewheelers design but a repro of a Leathertogs. Other makers do it. Although admittedly Freewheelers might have been the first to bring it back to life.
I’ve read the same somewhere about Fountainhead leathers being a spin off of some sort of Fine Creek. @Blackadder do you know more?
From my point of view I’m happy to give up some stitching precision in favour of unique design. I think Himel’s designs are generally pretty great. After all that preaching about stitching though I wouldn’t have expected that. Some people thought it was RMC. Can I ask why? Honestly all RMC stuff...
