Making a Western hat by hand?

Each crown block has it's own size and height. Also, each block has a style "shape". You'll read where one hat is a #51 style block 5 1/2" height, or a #52 5 3/4" height, etc. The style number indicates the slope, if you will, on the sides of the crown, and from the front and back. Some...

    1865 Distressed Collection

Just to add to the conversation concerning Nick F-head ... My daughter, who is just getting started in the hat making business earlier this year, contacted Nick's store in the (naive) hope to gaining some information as to vendors and the like. She was told that they couldn't give her any info...

    STEP BY STEP NAPTHA BATH

I've done these baths on hats before and, from my personal experience, one of the factors is the condition of the sweatband before it goes in. With newer hats, not a big concern but with really older hats, if the sweatband is already starting to deteriorate you may run into a problem with it...

With that particular style of hatband, I agree that this one falls into that late 70's to mid-80's era.

    Hat Jack

Not so sure about any 4-way Hat Jacks, per say, but a 4-way Hat Stretcher does exist out here at Western Costume Company in Los Angeles. I bought one for the business awhile back. Here's their link: http://www.wccsupplystore.com/4-way-wooden-hat-stretcher/

Ask a question, get an answer

Yep! Since I work in the "corporate world" and play in the Cowboy (a.k.a. Horse working), or Cowboy Action Shooting (SASS) world, the amount of time I wear a hat varies greatly. During the week I MAY wear my hat in the car to the office, NEVER from car to office, and MAYBE from work to home...

Straw, paper straw, can someone break this down for me?

We've had a couple of discussions on this subject here in the past. You may be able to search for the thread. I personally like palm and panama straws for their durability. Panamas are usually a finer weave and I think awesome as a "dress straw" although I know a few guys who wear them every...
