I read the title of the thread on my email and immediately thought, "hair gel ... Hmmm ... Just spray your head with the scotch guard, and the hair gel shouldn't get from your hair to the felt. Glad I actually READ the posts!! LOL!!! :p
I think it may be earlier than 60's. That sweatband bow looks older than '70's. I had the guys here check mine and we came up with around 1959. The Union label (should be under the size tag) might be another clue.
Couldn't tell by your posting, but whether you purchased or made that hat rack, I think it looks great! Those hats have an awesome place to be displayed!!
