One difference I see between the teens/20s vamps and the 40s/50 vamps is the second group looks friendly, happy and relaxed. The first group looks hard as nails.
In Gilda, Rita Hayworth's dress (except for the walking slit) is no more revealing than a typical modern bridal gown:
Part of glamor is mystery. I'm not sure why this is, nor do I want to preach a sermon on modesty. But a confident yet vulnerable woman who makes herself beautiful will...
I worked at the Air Force Academy for 2.5 years. The women cadets seemed to get an equal share of injuries (as far as I could tell from seeing cadets wearing casts) and being screamed at and humiliated.
I was enlisted myself. The women TIs in basic training were way meaner than the male...
I don't think equality can be enforced in any sphere.
I think race and gender are two very different things. Gender is much more distinct than race, which has seen numerous classifications over the years.
Funny thing is, it seems like men are the ones now who are inclined to stay home...
In Denver, it may have been Denver Dry Goods Co. I have a sweater from there that I bought 15 years ago at a consignment store, wore regularly on the loading dock where I worked, and it's still almost good as new.

I think you will have a hard time...

Neither am I.
Kidding aside, a gentleman used to be a man who, among other things, didn't have to work for a living. Today, I usually hear the term in reference to someone who behaves himself around women.
I saw a nice shorts outfit today (at least, I thought the outfit looked good). On the bus, there was a courier wearing a gray three-button jacket, white dress shirt, knee-length khaki cargo shorts, black knee pads, black fingerless gloves, a modern back-pack with a chest strap, and brown tennis...
