    Valentine's Day. What's your view?

I should get a little box of candy for all the recent widows and widowers I know: my brother-in-law, sister-in-law and neighbor. And one for me too.

    Anyone Read This Yet?

I was referring to a review of the book that called it "groundbreaking." I didn't mean that you shouldn't have posted it. Actually, I find first world problems interesting (e.g., I have such a large house--where do I put my espresso machine?). I see it as the same rat race that people have been...

    Valentine's Day. What's your view?

I've never thought about whether my sister-in-law misses my brother. [huh] After all those years together I'm sure she does.

    Valentine's Day. What's your view?

It can be hard to move on when you see the person every day. I keep in mind what my brother told me: a lot of married people would love to trade places with you. He was married long enough to know.

    Valentine's Day. What's your view?

My last relationship changed my perspective. I been working two jobs so that he could have a day off (we worked at the same place, where I covered for him on Saturdays). Come Valentine's Day, I didn't even get a card. Or a thank-you. Being home with my dignity doesn't seem so bad compared to that.

    Anyone Read This Yet?

I don't see how this is "groundbreaking." People have been complaining for years about how "busy" they are. How busy can someone be who has time to read this book? A lot of folks--myself included--could free up several hours every week by shutting off the TV, computer, blackberry, and cell...

    21 Club goes tieless

They should totally let Superman in instead of the Blues Bros.

Would you ladies wear these shoos?

I might wear them if I were a male impersonator.

Does your Dancing have Enough Soul?

As relevant as this is to the topic, I'll put it aside in the interest of discussing dancing with feeling or soul. To dance well requires control. Really proficient dancers know different arm movements, head movements, even where to look. They've practiced it all. Everything has a...

    Dressing up or down?

I like a jacket with an open necked shirt. To me, it looks better with slacks than jeans. Jacket with jeans reminds me of the 90s.

    Does this look vintage?

I agree about indirect lighting. The ceiling fan in my living room has spotlights. They show every flaw in everything they shine on and they're so bright they're painful to look at. I've tried pointing them upward, but the fan causes bizarre shadow and light patterns, like driving through a...

    Dressing up or down?

If you wear a coat and tie, you can always take them off. But if you're underdressed, there's not much you can do.

    Does this look vintage?

If it's an investment, can you sell it for a lot more than the cost? If it's for your enjoyment, do you need a lamp? Can you afford this one? Does it go with your decor?

    Wuthering Heights (2009)

The modern, layered haircut doesn't help, either. They might have at least tied it back or put it up.

    Wuthering Heights (2009)

I saw it too and enjoyed it. I thought Catherine looked very modern while she was seeing Heathcliff, as if she had stepped right out of a J. Jill catalog, but the actress seems good in the role. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of it.

Does your Dancing have Enough Soul?

I think you can be really into your dancing and flow in the wrong direction. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OWmx5c_dCk&feature=related Feel free to fast forward to 2:00. Billy Ray Cyrus put a lot of time and effort into his dances, and it's clear that he's focused. But it looks...

JFK and the death of the hat

My father told me last night that Pres. William Henry Harrison didn't wear a hat or overcoat to his inauguration, even though it was chilly. He died of pneumonia a month later.

    Fictional Character Crush

A friend and I both liked Orlando Bloom as Legolas in Lord of the Rings. He was one hot elf.

    What Happens to Old Towns?

This reminds me of one place in particular in Denver: a funky place that serves "natural, organic, locally grown" food that isn't as good as organic cookies or frozen dinners I've bought at the grocery store. One day I ordered a piece of apple pie and it was FULL of mold. Their prices aren't...
