I've heard that those rubber linings have degraded over time and have turned toxic? I turned down a lovely light tweed mac because the rubber lining was dropping to bits and had a nasty fragrance.
True that. I never wear club or regimental ties - but I must admit I collect them if they're about. My grandfather once wore one he picked up by accident and got challenged on the street! He never realised it was regimental tie!
Any love for this 1960s tie with a drinking motif?
A good one to wear to the pub! When you get too intoxicated you can just point to the next drink you want on the tie.
I came across this really odd cravat today while having a lunch-time browse around a junk/vintage shop. A 'Tootal Ascot', which is basically a cravat without having to tie it. At first I thought someone had modified a normal cravat, but on seeing the label, inspecting the stitching, and that the...
I didn't know that about satin! Interesting. Yes Milium is relatively common in winter suits and overcoats really. For me the label just adds a bit of colour to the inside of your suit as far as I'm concerned. There is no obvious structure underneath the lining as I say (ie it isn't like a...
TT - I wonder if the 'lightweight' could refer to them being less bulky, because I agree - that suit is damned heavy!
Esteban68 - that suit sounds good. Go for it!
Rabbit - I don't know much about Milium at all. It isn't obvious what it is from looking at the exterior. Esteban68 perhaps you...
Oh I kept well away from spitting grease and drippy sauces! And with regards the Milium - my friends were all whining about how cold they were while I stood toasty in my metal-insulated suit. .
Hello folks!
This is my late 1950s 3-piece John Collier suit, with Milium lining. At least, I think it's 1950s - the style would suggest so, with 11" bottoms on the trousers, high-rise and a risen-up rear (I assume at one point with a split-seam waistband, but it has been adjusted before I got...
Hello all!
Off to a BBQ at my friends for his sister's birthday. Wore my 3-piece 1950s John Collier suit, Milium lined. Tootal tie on a William Hunt shirt.
Thanks for looking!
Thanks! Yes I'm being optimistic and calling it 1930s. Looking the details (neat shoulders, high button-stance etc.) I'd say it isn't typical of anything later. But then again, companies would keep older styles in for some time after they weren't 'on-peak' for fashion.
