Two considerations are 1) If that is one of their horsehide vests, it may feel a bit substantial and might be too much vest to want to put that jacket over. 2) If you want something durable but lighter weight to fit under that jacket you could try a buffalo version, if they make it.

sizing
I have found sizing to vary. Keep in mind a jacket will bend and weave and stretch to fit you better over time, whereas a jacket that feels comfortable from the outset might drape or bag as time goes. One thing that wont change is overall front length so make sure you are happy w/that...
Looks/fit great. If it feels tight in places, that's good, 'cause it will stretch to fit as you wear and never be baggy. Wow....that's as good as it gets.
Navin, so THAT explains the new jacket project...I once did ten days on that stuff, and found myself belting out Hamlet to nothing but four walls in the middle of the night....walking up and down the driveway 100 times singing every song I knew...or simply pulling books off all the shelves and...
Wake up one morning to find myself moved to a mountain retreat lock-stock-barrel with the money for my house in the bank. Other than that, I'd settle for a Good Wear Californian and a lifetime supply of homemade cherry vanilla ice cream.
If you want to spend less, I have a number of A2s and find two of my "inexpensive" ones are the ones I like best: One was a Sears Leather Shop, bought second-hand, from way back, great jacket, tough, looks good, ages well, and while not perfectly authentic, features strong deep pockets which I...
There's always this...http://stylecrave.com/2009-11-29/joe-mccoy-down-vest/
I have an LL Bean down vest. It's light, warm, inexpensive (I got mine new on the 'bay) and unless it's a drenching downpour or you are all day in rain, resists rain pretty well.
I have a Langlitz Cascade, 2nd owner, and a custom jacket they measured me for in the store. It's a great place. One of the things I like most is they really have no size or fashion rules.....each to their own. They understand we all like different fits, even different fits for different...
vests
I wear a vest for work sometimes, 'cause of the pockets (I always need a lot of work "stuff"), so I got curious and went to the Hillside website. I liked the Stand-up Collar vests--they are listed as "new" so perhaps quality has taken a turn for the better there. I have two denim ones...
I had an estimate for a repair from Without-a-Trace some years ago---and they seemed reliable, but I'm going to try someone local first. I like the idea of bringing the stuff in and working through some of the issues w/someone because they may have a better idea. I'm limited to just what I see...
I would try the Langlitz Cascade first. They have a lot of gently used ones in the store, some on consignment even, which run about the half the cost of new. If you know your size pretty well, it's a great way to get one (mine was!). If you go new, they offer all options on it, even straight...
I've been googling away based on the suggestions. I'll make some calls this week. Both the idea of asking a local bike shop for a recommendation--and trying to dig up an "adult" leather place are good ideas I think. In my experience, an artisan doing a lot of one thing often jumps at the chance...
I have half-a-dozen one-of-a-kind leather garments I bought 2nd hand and I'd like to see if I can alter them. It would be worth it. For instance, one is a 1940s antelope rough-out handmade sport coat, great: except I hate the collar. Another is a heavyweight elk blazer from the early 60s that...
While perhaps not as stylish as the GTs, I think the Redwings 202 (Moc toe) are a more supple leather boot--and less expensive. Great ankle support and they have the good sole--i forget which it is--that are easier on the feet all day than my other pair of Redwing workboots, 2156. I have a pair...
I second Good Wear. While not inexpensive, still a good value, especially so when compared to high-quality modern (fashion) leather jackets from designers, etc. It will last forever and look and feel good as it does. Every one I've ever seen is great. That said, value-wise, there are also "used"...
Well, after waking this morning in my zipped-up jacket, and hopping into the shower with it on...I thought, wow, this does make life simpler. Didn't use a towel, just dove right into the dryer--wait, was it only the jacket you put in?
After the age of 40--or was it 15?--I stopped wearing...
