How to tell wool from rabbit/fur felt

Here in Australia, rabbits are a pest because they dig around and uproot stuff and cause soil-erosion. So I'm sure there's a concerted effort to hunt down and remove rabbits from the landscape and put them on our heads. I suppose one way to tell rabbit felt from wool is to stroke it and dangle...

    Vintage reusable lunch pail

On the rare occasions where I have to bring lunch with me (or food of any kind) to a place where I might not be able to get it later, I use one of these: These are modern, steel ones. But I would love an antique enameled one, if I can ever get my hands on one in good condition at a decent price.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

What are you, an idiot? The first offense should be decapitation. Don't be soft, man. It makes them think they can keep doing it. And if they think they can, they will.

Amusing quotes from people mis-dating you

She should've said: "Yes, and so am I", and got the whole lot in for $20.

Show Us Your Pedigree! The Heritage Thread.

While I said in a previous post that my family is 'Chinese', I felt that this was too general. 'China' is a huge country. To be more specific and true to myself and my heritage, my family is actually Straits Chinese. I'm Straits Chinese on my father's side, and I believe, also on my mother's...

If you could only wear one hat, what color would be ideal?

Brown of some shade. It's the one I seem to wear the most often and it seems to go with most colours that I like to wear.

    Show us your vintage home!

Our house isn't nearly as old as that (1965), but we do still have all the original floor-plans and such. Rolled up in a tube in the study.

I hate floor-lamps. I keep knocking the damn things over. But those look pretty! That said, I think I like the chairs more.

    Families of the Lounge

Hi Big Man, A beautiful and precious story. People who are lucky enough to have GG-children, and children lucky enough to have GG-Parents don't always seem to appreciate how amazing it is. On either side. My nephews and niece came over to Australia once to visit my grandmother (their...

    Post New Hats Here!

Thanks for the feedback on the hat, folks. I'm very glad to have it. I tried to read what the model was, but as a couple of you noticed, the sweat-band inside is rather...um...battered. It's not uncomfortable so that doesn't bother me. This is now my second Christy's. I have another one (a...

What do you use to shave?

There are several very good youtube videos out there on shaving with a D.E. and straight-razor. I learned how to shave with a straight-razor watching a coupe of 10 minute videos a few years ago and never looked back.

    Post New Hats Here!

$10 at the local thrift-shop. Please tell me I bought something good. It fits perfectly, and everything. It was FILTHY when I bought it. A friend brushed it down and removed all the (CONSIDERABLE) dust on it, to make it look the colour it is now :) Back Front
