Carlin was my favourite comedian.
I loved him because...
- He was intelligent.
- He was a wordsmith. He LOVED mucking around with language. Nobody can deny this.
- He kept up-to-date and relevant, despite his age.
- He was controversial.
- He was funny.
- He was brave.
And...
When I was a child, my parents gave me a gold chain necklace. But I found it so uncomfortable (I absolutely CANNOT STAND cold metal against my skin) that I hardly ever wore it.
I still have the chain, I just never put it on.
Si vis pacem, para bellum.
- Latin Saying.
"If you desire peace, prepare for war".

"Keep Buggering On!"
- Sir Winston Churchill.

"Sir, I do not drink, and I do not smoke. And am 100% fit!"
"Sir! I both drink, and smoke, and I'm 200% fit!"
Montgomery and...
I didn't know what to expect when I found it. I just thought it was cute.
Once I have the second key cut, I'll be using it on my display cabinet.
Antique padlock to keep antiques safe! Can't beat that.
When I took it to the locksmith, they were very interested in it. They started asking me...
Hey folks.
Here in Australia, where the weather is backwards and the land is upside down...it's now solidly spring.
It's also solidly rising in temperature. And very soon we'll be in the grips of deepest summer.
With this in mind, I've stopped wearing most of my thicker/heavier felt hats...
You're welcome Talbot. I reckoned the people here would get a kick out of it. I agree, a full restoration & renovation would make the place look incredible. If it were possible for it to be done properly and sympathetically. But it would be prohibitively expensive.
What you want is some rich...
I got a bag of junk for $2.
Out of it, I got four working padlocks and keys.
Two padlocks are of no real importance or interest.
One padlock is an old Czech warded padlock with a pair of matching keys. Handy thing. Might use it one day. A nice solid vintage padlock.
The other padlock is...
I was indulging in my passion for the macabre and I came across this:

Agreed.
I love that badge, but it should say: "To Correct and Serve"
If we're on about grammar and stuff at the moment, one of my pet peeves is 'of'.
Honestly it's embarrassing. I see it all the time.
"He should of done that".
"He could of bought that".
"She might of come over but then...
I would say Navy blue. Every suit these days is black, grey, charcoal, cloud, silver...I can't remember the last time I saw a real blue suit. So I think that would make things a bit different and interesting.
My grandparents on my father's side had a housemaid. They had not a cent to pay her, but she worked for her bed and board. It's a long and complicated story which involves WWII.
My grandparents on my mother's side had housemaids, and a chauffeur (grandaddy was a businessman of fairly high status).
We used to have a day-maid who looked after the house and cooked for us back when I was a kid because both parents were working and stuff. And it was just grandma at home and she was in her 80s.
A lot of my relatives back in the Old Country still have housemaids. Partially because they're...
