Howdy, Pilgrim!
Sears Pilgrim that is
This hat has all the "bells and whistles", Beaver Blend, Cushion Comfort, DuPont "Quilon" Chrome Complex water repellent and shape retaining. All this for $7.98 (well, okay 50 years ago maybe)! All it's original tags too
See a fair amount of Penney's...
Thanks S4C. Generally when I see a leaf in the logo instead of the stars I think more 50's and later but, it's Stetson and there are numerous exceptions.
That's a beauty, S4C! I think there was a Sovereign thread recently, worth popping a couple of pics of this in there.

I'm just amazed that it's still possible! When you think of all the cool things that are kind of lost to time, felted edges, unreeded sweatbands and so on, it's cool this is still an option.
Thank You Mr. Jones for locating the "thingy" or "do-da". Here's a close up;
It's some kind of fabric but looks like corrugated cardboard. I think it's supposed to provide some air flow or prevent sweat from transfering through to the felt or some such
Some great looking lids today, Gentlemen!
Finally getting back in the swing of things
Vintage Borsalino I recently rehabbed. Curious if that corrugated thingy at the front of the sweatband helps beat the heat
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. It was rough and will never be flawless but it came out pretty good.
I've always been curious if the corrugated front sweatband thing had any noticeable effect. Now I'll find out
Right on! I wear my hats all kinds of ways and have a lot of vintage hats so the fit is never consistant. I do prefer a finger's width above the ears as it gives me more room for a tilt if the mood strikes.
I could be remembering wrong but I believe there was a growing shortage of rabbits in Australia that was driving the price up. It won't take long for the population to recover if left unharvested for a couple of years.
After Mayser's knockout Echter I'm a little sheepish about showing this but, here goes;
Fished this very neglected hat out of the bay;
Got it fairly cheap for a big size vintage Borso, I thought it had potential
steamed, cleaned, reblocked and flanged
This is pretty close to the actual...
Photo, I chalk those mistakes up to the price of a hat education and learn what I can from it like you've mentioned here. If there is no clear size tag shown in an add I always ask if there is a size tag in the back of the leather sweatband or under it, or if they are a size 7 1/2 and it fits...
