This was always OK. Watch old movies from 30's, 40's and 50's (my general guide to hat etiquette),You'll see plenty of guys with their hats on at bars and diner counters. In the dining area of a restaurant, no.
I once went into a reasonably nice restaurant and the hostess told me to take my hat...
Harv, the 3XOR is a beauty!
Rick, Big Wow! Love everything about that hat
DJH, the family is looking good in NYC and that VS.....swoon everytime you show it. One for my Top Ten hat list
el_ote, Looking sharp in that Nolten. Never heard of that model either but it's a keeper
Bob, very...
+1 never seen an add for a ribbon treatment like that for Stetson (adds turn up all the time, who knows?), most likely someone replaced an original ribbon
If you've got other Open Roads I wouldn't change a thing, it's well done
I've got the same hat, same vintage and no model name except yours is pristine and mine shows a lifetime of abuse. Kind of Stratoliner-ish, perhaps a little tall in the crown but ballpark. Hope we can find out what it is! I was wondering if this was a Missouri hat (circa 70's) from the time in...
+3 or something, Fruno! Very nice and I agree with Moon's assessment, early 50's. In Borsalino terms that color would be called "Bismuto". Not sure what Stetson called it, they had so many color variations and names
Yes, it's a Shudde refurb (although not by me) but has the Stetson logos on the liner and what must be a new sweatband. It's the slickest shiny leather I've ever felt in a sweatband. Doesn't seem to absorb sweat so good for the 90+ weather.
Fruno, that is one sweet Whippet! I hope someday to...
Yes, 7X Clear Beaver. Thanks Fruno and Moon. The RENSH business is RENovated by SHudde. It's a full 6 inch open crown, 2 7/8 brim. Sort of Open Road-ish but no brim binding or any sign it ever had any. More of a western, I guess
Moehawk, I've got the same hat and am looking to do the same thing! The leather band just doesn't go with it
Chamuco, always looking sharp and the light grey Temple is classic
Ordinary, that Panama looks perfectly porportioned
Job, great cap and Shurons
Fruno, dig the Premiere and Mungo...
Those are good indicators although the stars hang in there til '51 or '52 and beyond. I've got a factory store hat (date on the sweat) that's from '58 with the stars logo...I'm wrong often enough myself and we are talking Stetson. Not always the most consistant.
My older 3X Open Road (which I got from gtdean48) is 3 inch brim and 5 5/8 open crown
My mid to late 50's is the more typical 2 3/4 brim and 5 1/2 open crown
