From Michael himself:
Old felt on the left, new felt on the right.
@Guardian Enzo is correct, the new felt is supposedly thicker and noticeably more blue.
Fresh off Michael's hat stand:
In the spirit of the forum, and because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery:
FELT: Silvermist
RIBBON/TRIM: Silverbelly
CROWN: 5 3/4"
BRIM: 2 3/4"
RIBBON: 1 1/2"
BINDING: 1/2"
Headshots to come.
Holy dog...would someone please post a photo of a hat already?!?!
My Gannon in Silvermist with 40s Whippet specs is, to quote Victor Frankenstein, alive — IT'S ALIVE. Discussing ribbon options with Michael this morning.
FELT: Silvermist
RIBBON: 1 1/2", Light Grey
TRIM: 3/8", Light Grey
CROWN: 5 3/4"
BRIM: 2 3/4"
It's based upon @Chamuco's (image below) and @Short Balding Guy's silvermist lids with 40s Whippet specs provided by @moontheloon (THANK YOU gents!).
My only change is that the ribbon and trim will...
@Chamuco, this is absolutely, positively STUNNING. What color is the brim treatment?
I've been corresponding with Michael for a few weeks now, and I'm next in line for a lid.
Well said, @moontheloon.
None of us should be looking to Ginger Baker for life advise, @Michael R. The name of his bio-pic is "BEWARE of Ginger Baker" for dog's sake! His album Going Back Home is recommended though (mostly because it sounds like a Bill Frisell release).
Happy hatting, all!
Selling.
I paid twice the starting bid just a few week back. The hat was misrepresented in the auction's images as gray — and I mean GRAY — and it most certainly isn't. It's a beautiful head piece, but I simply own too many lids in brown already.
Happy hatting.
My cycling teammates regularly refer to the number of bikes needed as "n+1."
Collectively we've learned that a wife/significant other with an extensive handbag and/or shoe collection usually keeps the peace.
There is a storage company in Manhattan that has perfected witty billboard advertising. The two below are from a few years back, and are my absolute favorites. The sentiment certainly applies here if you replace the verbiage with hat lingo.
@g.durand, this one is for you:
The sad part: a...
Love it, @GHT (and thanks for remembering to smile...we're all wearing hats for dog's sake!).
I'm heading out to the dog park to battle insects, dandy lions, and assorted ankle biters with tails. Only a CD is tough enough for this job.
Seriously folks, start smiling more in these pics...the...
I moved a few months back from the west coast to a part of the country that has seasonal weather patterns. Humidity and softball sized mosquitos are just around the corner, apparently. I'm a felt guy that owns zero straw lids, and I know absolutely nothing about them, so I'm requesting some...
One is mine (sorry I'm not sorry about the additional wait!).
We've got the colors narrowed down to a few choices, and Michael is mailing felt swatches for me to examine in the upcoming days.
