Anime is the worst for inscrutable plots. I watched the whole series of Darker than Black, and I still don't know what it was about. The biggest Aha! moments were recognizing voice actors from other series.
A friend of mine had a brother, I think, who was denied coffee by the Red Cross because it was for officers only. This was in WWII. Fifty years on, she still wouldn't give them a penny. What's that saying about reputation taking years to build and five seconds to destroy?
At my workplace, the irony is that this isn't how we advise our clients to give to charity. (I work at a large accounting firm.) We advise them to give to charities that will give them Enterprise Zone Credits for the state of Colorado--meaning, they get a tax write-off. There are some terrific...
If WMP had been available for a Mac for a reasonable price, I'd have bought it. Amazon music player flat-out quit working on my machine and iTunes won't let me put in data for songs it doesn't recognize. The highly touted VLC needed constant fiddling with.
Swinsian has something called...
Joy to the World 50 Greatest Christmas Hits of All Time and What a Wonderful Christmas: Mel Torme, Louis Armstrong, The Andrews Sisters, etc. and some fairly new-agey modern instrumentals.
I finally found a music player I like that work on a Mac (Swinsian). But I still miss Windows Media Player.
Last show I watched was Bletchley Circle, about a group of English women who were code breakers during WWII. The show is set in the early 50s and the women use their skills to solve crimes.
I watched an episode or two of The Walking Dead but couldn't get into it.
Indeed, the evidence points to our ancestors developing big brains around the time they became predators.
Your bacon comments remind me of a cartoon: two travelers are looking at a sign that says "warm, sunny beaches" one direction, and "snow and cold" in the other. One guy looks in the...
Thanks, Lizzie! I've been away for a few years studying food, paleoanthropology, and research. You're right about studies--if you don't know how studies are conducted and the magic tricks researchers play to get the results they want, don't bother with them. There was an article a few years ago...
Specifically, it was a triumph of the CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest), a self-appointed food police organization. Their campaign led to fries being fried in trans fats, which they said at the time was fine. Now they're against trans fats.
And yes, lard is slowly making a...
To my mind, it's a sad thing when someone will pay a dollar to wear a baseball cap but not to help a classmate's family with funeral expenses--or they need some sort of compensation for doing so. With the PJ event, for the right price, you get to network with bigwigs, get face time with the...
Yes, and yes. But they could have just written a check.
You didn't see this sort of thing in the halls during the Dave Cribari (of our office) administration.
Our office has officially jumped the charitable giving shark by our managing partner and operations manager attending this event in their pajamas:

The operations manager was even at work--wait for it--in. Her. Pajamas. At a large, downtown...
I decided to wear the fur scarf to the office today, and I'm glad I did since it's chilly in here. And it adds a nice touch to my tweed blazer (the same one I'm wearing in my avatar, but it's buttoned up). I'm also wearing a black pencil skirt and rose patterned tights; this scarf wouldn't look...
Who loves this look?! I got a faux fur scarf today and I'm looking forward to wearing it. It's a short scarf with a loop to push one end through.
Wearing it indoors: yes or no?
Wearing it with short sleeves--possibly not a good look. It reminds me of a necktie with a short-sleeved shirt...
A new book is out claiming that Sybil, the book and TV movie about a woman with multiple personalities, is largely fiction. (Sybil was born around 1920 and treated in the 50s and early 60s.) Disturbing stuff about how fast and loose doctors used to play with their patients' welfare.
