Ballard was quite mad, but also foresaw a lot of the 'concept tribalism' that currently affects Western societies. He was definitely on the ball when it came to the barely-suppressed antagonism of class divisions in UK society. 'High Rise' is a good one for that (although the film is blunt to...
You should read J.G. Ballard's novels if you like the film. 'Cocaine Nights' is particularly good. I don't recall the exact first jacket that kicked the habit off for me, but the 'Empire of the Sun' one is an inspired piece of costuming.
Got a Café Racer in blackened brown Vicenza coming, along with a pair of William Lennon chukkas in black cxl. Then I'm going on a leather purchase hiatus for a year.
:)
An Aero Highwayman that I've had for over ten years and a new Café Racer in tan steer hide. These are previous pics, but I'm at work, etc. This was my first purchase and made me an Aero customer to the extent that I've only ever bought one non-Aero leather jacket in a similar price range.
I don't order Aeros with inner pockets any more, but that's just for the line of the jackets.
I have a Highwayman with the best inner pockets ever - cotton drill lined, snap closure, can fit an iPad mini in without showing on the outside. They absolutely nailed the pockets, but it's never...
This is the problem with looking for offence where none was intended and then assuming other insinuations. It comes off as false moralising, schoolmarmish and shallow. The moral high ground is only occupied in this case so that you have an excuse to finger-wag or tick off. It's bad form...
Here we are:
The last one shows the base coat - it's a light russet (which we could refer to as almost a salmon colour ). The only alteration was an angled chest pocket and contrast brown stitching.
It's more like a deranged tangerine ('derangerine') at the moment. It'll calm down (although if it doesn't, it's equally fantastic). I was lucky to get a batch of tan steer hide. It needs heavy rain and long journeys. Possibly beer and/or impressive cocktails.
It's ok - the CR was ordered over a year and a bit before while I was locked down; I picked it up from the UK and now it's free to shock people in Wan Chai.
And the Plainsman...
Just arrived in HK with a replacement zip. Thirteen-year old Highwayman (with D-rings, too). My first Aero purchase which started off the madness and enjoyment of an admittedly strange journey... It reminds me that I need to wear in the new tan steer hide Cafe Racer: hopefully there will be...
Very nice. Mid-weight hides I have recently found are better for general purposes. I will get around to a roomier Cafe Racer in a mid-weight brown at some point as I've thinned my herd a little :)
If you are going to put a leather jacket in a washing machine (I've done this only a couple of times with very heavily-dusted or soaked-through leather jackets. You probably don't need to), then:
1. Turn it inside-out
2. Put it inside a pillow case. Don't skip this part because it might...
Approximate shoe polish colour will fix that. Just a dab and then rub it in. If in doubt, a specialist would colour-match it, but they're likely to do the same thing with a pigment of some sort.
Even here in Hong Kong (where it is 30-36 C throughout a long and humid summer [and humid all the time, anyway]) I have only ever seen one instance of fine white dusting on an Aero. In the UK, where I'd left a jacket hanging for two years, one jacket developed a 'bloom', but this wiped off...
I'm strongly considering a Cafe Racer in brown kelpie with nickel hardware in a 'roomier' size 42 later in the year. I managed to unload a Stockman and pass on another jacket and am trying to get down to fewer jackets by hook or by crook.
