Thanks - I had it made in Shanghai. It's a bit like the cover of Suskind's 'Perfume' (but without the skulls), which is why I had it made. That, and waiting to see how long the students would take to spot it. :)
I live in Hong Kong. 30 celsius would be nice. We get up to 36 C, easy and then there are the typhoons.
I've grown to really like the heat, Hawaiian shirts and icy drinks and the fact that nobody cares what a person wears here. What worries me is the cold when I go back to the UK (which I...
My only problem with fit has been with Cafe Racers. A size 42 is only j-u-s-t 'zippable' and a size 44 is a tiny bit too loose, but I reckon that's because I'm rectangular. The steer hide 42 might eventually loosen up in I wear it in the rain. If Vicenza shrinks, the size 44 might end up...
Yes, it'll be fine. The Universal zips correct the mechanical failures found in a (on balance seemingly small) number of Talon zips without compromising on period accuracy in terms of size (I think). I've owned quite a few Aeros and never had any issues with the product or the company. I'd...
Yes, sent it back to Aero. Hardware replacements/changes do entail a cost, but I'd rather they do it (using the original holes and undetectable) than risk a botched job elsewhere. In the grand scheme of things, I'm ok with paying for a new zip. The jacket is over 10 years old and it has been...
Yes, the brown fqhh is amazing. Lots of tones develop over time and it keeps improving. That one's my oldest Aero and only recently needed a zip replacement. It didn't take long to break in (unlike a tan steer hide café racer which is taking ages).
Aero has the brown fqhh (really, really nice as it ages), which I think is their best leather. I also rate the seal goat and dark seal Vicenza highly, although they won't patina like the brown fqhh.
This is a tough question. I'd second the approach of getting one zipped jacket and one buttoned one. The two most useful I've had have been an Aero Maxwell in tumbled cordovan and an Aero Highwayman in brown fqhh.
These were before I'd had a Vicenza jacket: it's an all-round hide I'd...
Vicenza is definitely lighter than the fqhh - I found it immediately wearable, with no real break-in. Goat is probably the most pliable hide I've had in an Aero, with heavy steer hide being the least. The jerky HH is also immediately wearable, but it has a fairly 'spongy' feel to it and I've...
I still reckon that fqhh gets the best overall patina - it just takes time and really frequent wear. In terms of weight, though, Vicenza is more wearable (at least to me). I'd really like to see black jerky hh after years of wear.
I'd like to get a Sunburst in dark seal Vicenza (or any other really dark brown) with off-white stitching (or possibly a Mulligan), but the recent price hikes mean that this won't happen anytime soon. In the meantime, though, I have some others to be breaking in. I also quite want a supply...
I'll wait 2-3 months for a custom thing, no problem. Any longer than that and I wouldn't order the item to begin with if we're talking 600 GBP plus - I'd just find something similar OTR.
Wow, those prices have definitely gone up! I'm glad I ordered my probable last additions recently.
The sale looked really good, but I couldn't quite pull the trigger.
I was looking forward to ordering a Sunburst in Vic dark seal with some off-white stitching, but the costs now are too steep...
