I have a Mariner in dark seal and a Cafe Racer in blackened brown - the latter is too new to show much wear, but the Mariner is revealing a lighter brown undertone at cuff edges, etc. Vicenza wears through more slowly than CXL but quicker than goat. In terms of drape and weight, I reckon...
I've noticed this in the shoulder of a new Plainsman - having checked other jackets, this seems to be unusual (it looks like the leather top coat has split and the hide underneath is a bit, too). I hope not; having to send it back would be a major inconvenience. What do people think? As I...
Lockdown changed a lot for me. I moved back to HK and threw out a lot of clothes to cut down on luggage weight, as I went with a bare minimum. I gave away one Aero to a buddy for helping out my kid and sold one, too. I bought three new ones, but they'll replace ones I'll also sell or move on...
The black cafe racer is a size 44; the tan one is 42. I'm somewhere in-between these two sizes, although the larger one allows for a hoodie underneath. I am solidly impressed by both the jerky and Vicenza, although the Vicenza I think wins out overall. The tan steer hide is really thick and...
And a Plainsman in black jerky HH, a Work Coat in russet Badalassi and a Pike Bros. deck jacket. Giving everything half an hour in the sun prevents spores. It's very hot in HK at the moment :)
Mine has never completely stopped but, as the dye washes out completely, I don't worry about it at all. I think it also depends on the material it's bleeding on to - wearing anything canvas is asking for trouble :)
Not the addiction to the Lounge, the addiction to the purchase of j...j....j...jackets (as the trembling starts). Just one more Café Racer to get me through the dark nights :)
I have a blackened brown Vicenza café racer on its way to me now. I've decided to size up so that I can layer under it (and because I already have a 'correctly fitting' one). Then I'm going to break the addiction for at least a year...
This is too long a potential list, but I'd keep 2 Aeros (Highwayman, Maxwell), 1 pair of Loakes for work and 1 pair of William Lennon boots, 1 pair of Carhartts and 1 pair of striped Pike Bros for work. 1 Hanes Beefy T-shirt and 1 Henley, 2 formal shirts by my Shanghai tailor (no brand, but...
Depends what kind of patina you want. The jerky would give the most evident patina (russet base), but Vicenza will patina too, after a while.
Jerky is very wearable and might fit the bill - you can ask Aero to select the lightest weight they have of a hide that you've chosen.
Hides that are lighter - but still really durable - would be goatskin, Vicenza and jerky horsehide. I have jackets in all three and the goatskin doesn't patina much, the jerky will after time and the Vicenza fairly minimally. I like the goat best in terms being able to wear it in slightly...
Debs is really great at filling people in with info. I was on the verge of getting an SB a year or so ago, but anything sent to me was getting impounded in Shanghai customs. I like their SB V2 and Statesman, but I'm not a huge fan of the collars on some of the other jackets.
I'd never sell this Highwayman. It was my first Aero, still may favourite and gets better every year. Received when my kid was an infant and she's almost 14 now.
It's also got the best inner and hand warmer pockets I've had. Seem to be lined in cotton drill.
Did I just accidentally...
