So, I got me this Fez see.....

I saw a guy wearing a fez in my local grocery store in Astoria, Queens - he was looking very casual and not really drawing any attention, which I thought was pretty amazing. As to what goes with a fez, a white suit works pretty well:

where to buy affordable three piece suits in NYC?

As I pick up well-made clothing here and there, the discount clothing seems even worse by comparison, and not worth even the low prices charged. I'm getting spoiled, I guess. To the OP, there is also the Barneys after-Christmas sale, but even on sale most of the suits there will be at least...

    Stolen/confused whippet...

I guess that swell new lid should take the sting out of your loss, at least somewhat. Back in the 70s, I had a girlfriend who found her burglarized possessions for sale on Astor Place - she got nearly everything back. Much later, my future wife had her purse picked. Staff from the Sherry...

where to buy affordable three piece suits in NYC?

Per Tomasso's recommendation, Syms has been very good to me, but requires patience. They hold a big sale ('BASH') in mid-January, and very good deals can be had. For example, a 3-pc H-F ran $375 for a $1500 suit, and some 3-button Abboud suits (no vests with these) were between $200-$300...

    1940's Wool Overcoat, Tan/Camel Colored

Sorry, it seems too small - I guess that means I don't have to inquire about shipping from Berlin... Good luck with it.

    1940's Wool Overcoat, Tan/Camel Colored

A beautiful coat. The chest and sleeve measurement are in keeping with a coat I have, but the shoulder is not. How is the shoulder measurement taken?

    Mad Men attire

I agree with the conclusions re: the look of the Madmen suits - still nice though, I'd definitely wear one nowadays. Re: cloth weight, I'm always too warm, so light weight suits are beneficial. I understand the period argument, however. For winter, I make up for light suits with a long heavy...

I Want to buy a Classic Gray Fedora .. Like a Stetson Packard Teardrop

The Stetson Packard shares its shape with many other modern production Stetsons, which come in various trim offerings. All of the following have the same crown shape (profile 10 teardrop) and brim width (2-3/8"). Royal quality is the entry level felt, Sovereign is noticeably nicer. Caribou gray...

    vintage hats

And some hats shrink with time - an original size 8 vintage hat may be 1-3 sizes smaller in actuality. Ideally you find out the internal circumference of the sweatband, but most vendors won't be able to provide this info.

    vintage hats

Large hats show up for sale here on the lounge occasionally - I've bought a couple. Look for listings from FRussell, he offers nice lids from time to time, generally 7-3/4 (my size) or 7-7/8. As you monitor the classifieds, you'll get to know which loungers share your hat size.

    Walking Sticks & Canes.

Definitely not a blade - I saw this cane with a low-power telescope in the handle while looking over the Orvis site for a tweed jacket: http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=2L8T&dir_id=885&group_id=10103&cat_id=11793&subcat_id=11794 Honestly, I can't decide if I like it or if it's...

Is Tweed Warmer Than Other Wool Products?

This makes sense for rugged outdoors use - a loose weave would enhance breathability during physical exertion.

    Grey flannels

I have no experience with these, but J. Peterman has flannels in gray and brown: http://www.jpeterman.com/Mens-Pants/1920s-Flannel-Pants They seem right stylistically - but it's hard to judge the rise from a sketch - I find the lack of photos quaint buy annoying.

Is Tweed Warmer Than Other Wool Products?

I have a flannel suit that is warm like this - it's really only wearable while walking or shopping outside, or if I know I'll be in a poorly-heated environment. Looking at old photos or movies of mountain climbers, or walkers in Scotland or the English Lake District (e.g. the 39 Steps), those...

    Orvis Hardwick washed tweed blazer

I've had a tailor close the vents on a jacket and it worked out well, so that's a good point. I'll probably dither for a while on the Orvis and see if anything comes along in the meantime, then look for the sales as you suggest. I have an unusual blue silk and wool jacket from the January sale...

    Orvis Hardwick washed tweed blazer

You're correct about the Orvis return policy, that's the only reason I would consider buying a jacket online, in fact. I tried Brooks Brothers, which had only one 3-button on display, in an unfortunate gold color with a double vent (which looks terrible on me). Thanks for the other vendor ideas...

    Orvis Hardwick washed tweed blazer

I'm curious if anyone has first hand experience with this 3-button blazer from Orvis: http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?adv=99656&pf_id=2X64 It seems to be very difficult to find a 3-button tweed sport jacket these days. I went to Orvis to look at this one, but they didn't have it in the...

What kind of hat might look good on my noggin?

Wow, you went from the 2-3/8" brim of the Chatham up to a 3" brim on the Squatter? That's quite a leap in size, but it may work well. I think your original suggestion, the Chatham, is a great hat - I just had a bound edge added to mine and it looks great. I'm going to swim against the Akubra...
