Actual hat size varies within a manufacturer's line as well. When trying on several identical hats of a given size, it is common to find one that fits better than the others. I've found a variance of perhaps +/- a half size more than once. I would always opt for a slightly larger hat, as sweat...
Manhattan wardrobe sells adhesive foam and non-adhesive felt strips. I'd probably just buy the felt squares KyleK mentions, but I have a bunch that were included with various hat purchases.

How is the sizing on this lid? A little on the larger side, maybe? I ran across this hat a few days ago somewhere, and it doesn't appear to be available in 7-3/4.
They apparently have a name - Perry suspenders. I remembered seeing them here:

I figured they were for the very portly, but hearing the input re: carrying service weapons, they make a lot more sense now.
^^^ This is correct - the Roadmaster is the undyed Open Road, with a cattleman's crease. The Roadster has a teardrop that is designed to look hand-creased, having three points around the rear portion of the teardrop.
There is also a nice discontinued lid called the 'Roadster'. I saw it at VHS - they no longer have it, but the pictures are great. It has an unusual three-point teardrop crease that is meant to look hand-formed:

Delmonico's still has some...
^^^ I agree in theory with the Deputy, but the Moose River I bought from LL Bean last fall was a right piece of crap. Luckily, the standard free shipping took the sting out of the experience. I think the Bear Creek or the Vintage (both Sovereign felt) would be a better bet - they all have the...
OK, this hat went back to Men's Hats. If you're looking for the new Milan Strat in color Sand, size 7-7/8 (marked 7-3/4) they should have this one back by the end of the week. Use coupon code AdRoll1 for free shipping - Cheers.
Whoops, looks like I referenced a discontinued hat, actually two, as the silk-finish hat I mentioned above is a Stetson Hampton, is also discontinued. There are still some of those to be found around the net, but the Roadmaster seems long gone - sorry about that....
Your dimensions are right in the wheel house of modern dress Stetsons. If you're fussy, I suggest sticking with Sovereign or better quality - it's very nice felt. I believe the new Strat is Royal felt, a step below Sovereign. I have a modern Whippet, a Sovereign felt that is really nice. The...
Wow, that website has almost no info - no photos of finished garments or fabric swatches, no prices, lots of empty pages. I'd be interested to see some pictures and hear how the process went and what the prices were.
I like the gray, it seems lighter than my gray Capricorn, which is a dark blue-gray.
FWIW, I am returning my too-large size 7-3/4 Strat in sand - it measures out to 7-7/8. I have it listed now on the classifieds. If any of you large-noggin types have been coveting this lid, get in touch in the...
I have a new Milan Stratoliner, the color is sand. The size is marked 7-3/4 but it measures out to a true 7-7/8. The hat isn't offered in this size, but it seems they're running large.
I'm waiting for a return label to arrive - until then, it is for sale for what I have into it ($91.80) plus...
Hey John, you remembered correctly, it was civil engineers, specifically those graduating from the Colorado School of Mines. Traditionally, seniors bought an Open Road and bashed it to identify themselves as bona fide engineers while in the field. They bought it a year before graduating so it...
A friend just received one in 7-1/2 from Hartford-York that is also much too big (one or two sizes), wonder what's up with the sizing. Maybe all of our heads are suffering some shrinkage?
TomS did the legwork showing the details of the hat, so I focused on comparing it to an Akubra Capricorn. Overall the dimensions of the two are quite similar. My Strat seems large compared to others shown here, with a 4-1/4" crown at the pinch and a 2-5/8" brim. The Strat has less taper than the...
