I'm wondering what would be the differences between a 46R and a 46S jacket. I know the sleeves and skirt will be shorter, but by how much? I have a memory that the difference in sleeve length is a couple inches (which will work fine for me), but don't know the length difference. If anyone has a...
Wow, an amazing amount of hand work goes into the lapel roll. I think it would be crazy to try to change a jacket of that quality.
I'm guessing in a cheaper fused jacket the lay of the lapel is created mainly by pressing, so could possibly be re-pressed. I'm heading by my tailor later, I'll ask...
I've done the same with jackets in a shop and wondered if it was feasible. Once I had a jacket come back from the dry cleaner pressed incorrectly. It was a 3-button that had been pressed as if it was 2-button. It made me think the reverse would be possible.
I'm thinking I'd like to give this a...
I'm wondering if converting a two-button to a three-button jacket is feasible. Has anyone done this? I searched the lounge and found nothing on point.
I'm sure it can be done, but not whether it can be done well. Obviously the lapels must be reshaped - but can that be done by pressing only...
Flannel will definitely be too warm for any but the coldest months in Southern California. I have two flannel suits that I only wear in the coldest months in NYC, for comparison. You really don't want to be drenched in sweat at an interview, after all.
I wouldn't be worried about tropical...
I'm interested as well, as the LLBean price is quite low for a Royal-quality felt. The smaller brim on the Moose River would suit me better than the new Strat, or the lounge version thereof. I'm thinking of having the brim of a Moose River bound so I can have my own mini-Strat.
I'm also...
Good point - I tend to agree. Of course that might, heaven forbid, open the can of worms with the label that reads: "what is a Trilby, exactly?", which has already been opened so many times.....
Fair enough - but doesn't your suit jacket stick out below the short jacket? Or maybe you don't wear a suit to work. Now that I have one, I find I really appreciate staying dry down to my calves with a full-length raincoat. And are you wearing a hat, or just using the hood?
What kind of hat do you wear with this coat? I like Bean products, generally, but wouldn't wear that with a suit, or a dress fedora, for that matter. I guess I'll stick with an old-fashioned, long raincoat with a zip-out lining. Although polyester, the twill texture gives it a fairly convincing...
If you've found a Goretex raincoat that will go over a suit, I'd like to hear about it.
Personally, with the heavy rainfall we get in the city, often coupled with high winds if you're anywhere near a river, I favor the full set of hat, raincoat and umbrella. Of course, if I needed quick...
Don't be scared, it's only a hat. My Stetson Royal quality felts have held up fine in the rain. You can find other posts by people who had Stetsons that did not. What's the worst that could happen? Your hat could go wonky, then you'll get to buy a new one....
Right now it looks worse on me than it does on the hanger. I'm not sure what you mean by fitted - I think it would be too expensive to have the interior of the jacket opened up and resewn to fit me.
Yes, the waist is 40 inches; the actual interior measurement is more like 40-3/4.
The trousers legs are 10 inches wide, so 20 inch circumference.
In their unhemmed state, the inseam is 39 inches, outseam is 51 inches, so the rise is 12 inches.
This is a NEW pair of J Peterman Palma Linen Pants, size 40, nice rustic tan weave with blue windowpane. Single pleats, button-through besom pockets (no loops), interior suspender buttons, 52% linen/48% wool. They are unhemmed and unworn. Asking $40 shipped to CONUS - post or PM with questions...
In taking pictures of this problem (thanks T), I think I may have figured out what's going on. Here are the photos (clickable):
The fold is worse on the left hand side of the jacket. On this side, the ends of the exterior breast pocket, the interior breast, cigar and cellphone pockets...
I hadn't heard that steaming a suit was a bad idea, but I guess over-steaming wool could certainly be a problem. I will talk to my tailor. The folds are maybe not as obtrusive as I thought - my wife doesn't think they're a big deal, and I did miss the effect in the (badly lighted) store and...
