Hi,
Yes, I've done that before. I was wondering about what to do when ordering a present for somebody else - is there a generic standard length? The same system as there would be for a 40R jacket for example.
I added a safety chain to a silver clip I have that is quite heavy - it's not as springy as steel so does slip occasionally. You can get gold ones here if you need it:

Try asking Peter which colours he has in stock. I ordered a few jumpers recently and he emailed me a photo of all the different balls of wool he had:

@Computergeek: I've never heard of straw being used in French polishing before, I've only ever used a fad for it. Have you got any links on the web to videos or tutorials for this technique? Cheers.
It's probably cellulose lacquer, that's been my experience with 40s furniture so far.
It's easy to clean with white spirit.
Applying either cellulose thinners or varnish should slightly soften the old varnish and blend it in.
If you want a small bottle of thinners to test with, I know...
Nobody else around here seems to know what advent candles are, I have to keep explaining it when people call round.
When we were children, we had a nativity scene with all the characters made from old fashioned wooden clothes pegs. The wise men were my favourites - they had felt cloaks and...
I live in a tiny 1 bed flat, so decorations are all recyclable (no storage room):
Paper chains
Holly wreaths
Ivy over the tops of picture frames
Advent ring using pine cones and a cake board (and candles obviously)
Lidl have a good range of Crabbie's booze at the moment - Ginger beer, Orange-Ginger beer, ginger wine, ready mixed whisky Mac, and something else that escapes me at the moment. Bargain prices - but I should say that the ready mixed whisky Mac (17%) is a pale comparison to a properly done...
I find that the problem with Prince Albert slippers is that the cheap ones look really cheap, and the expensive ones are REALLY expensive. It's hard to find an acceptable middle ground although M&S used to do OK ones. Their image has mostly been ruined by hip-hop "celebrities" anyway. Give me a...
I don't know what the style is called, but it looks like a cub scout belt, here's one:
I had one almost the same in about 1982.
Nice, simple, practical, rugged design. Buy one!
I'm a fedora novice too - I bought an Acorn Stylemaster & love wearing it.
An excellent 'starter' hat, I tried on a few other brands before getting an Akubra, for the money the are hard to beat.
Hi,
Can anybody comment on the difference between the wool types? My girlfriend has a cream jumper from Sou West Chunkies that is warm and quite soft.
The wool type wasn't specified, but I notice that they do Herdwick and Jacob wool too.
Which breed provides the hardest wearing wool fibres...
Just to bring some life back to an old thread (and maybe sell some nice glove whilst they're at it), Chester Jefferies have now added these to their website:

Here's a link to an old sewing machine manual - the braider looks like your right-hand mystery accessory to me:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/91283828/Frister-Rossmann-Manual-16MB
I think the one on the right is a "Braider" - i.e. something for sewing braid onto fabric. The one on the left may be a corder - does it have a groove underneath, running front to back? (to run the cord through)
I'm no expert, but I do have an illustrated Frister & Rossman instruction booklet...
