Thanks Doc, while the Buzz Ricks appeal for their authentic/heavier "nylon twill" outer shell, better quality woolens and repro zippers I can't go the $555.00 tag right now.
Which of your 2 Alphas had the bulkier 'batting' in them do you recall?
PS. If you can comment how would you...
Yes I did Peacoat, "might be something that can be shipped before end of year" was the update. On a side note I happened across the same custom Enfield (zipped side pockets) offered by a 'label' in Japan; price = $1600!!
Victim X Vanson is the label (I kid you not).
I have been considering getting one of their fabric flight jackets. They are the Alpha brand. Is this a good brand for an MA-1, B-15 or CPU/45? or might there be other recommendations? I'm hoping for one that doesn't skimp on quality or the amount of 'batting' used in lining.
I like all three...
I think these vintage 3/4 length jackets make great riding jackets for spring and fall cooler temps (on my beautiful Bonneville :)). I've snagged a couple of nice ones on ebay for cheap. One is heavy horsehide 50's German make $65 and the other an American jacket made in the 70's, purchased new...
Excellent choice. Hope you will post a few close-ups of the leather as well as a few out door shots. I'm very interested in Aero's oil-pull leather. A few members have found it to be a bit too suede like in appearance for their taste. I didn't see that on the oil pull sample I received.
I've read posts regarding Aero's steeerhide being far too thick/stiff to the point of being unwearable. I really like the colour and single tone of this hide based on pics. Are there any owners of Aero steerhide that have come to a different conclusion regarding its wearability?
I'm...
I'd like to see a few pics of you wearing it, front and back, it would be easier to see what is going on.
I have been considering black fqhh in the belief that it did not show any mismatching of grain. I guess all the fqhh shows some of it.
Did Amanda give you any idea of how long your custom BL will take at this time Hoosier?
What do you think of all zippered pockets in addition to the zippered sleeves in the BL? (I don't think I've seen a BL with all zippered pockets).
As I mentioned mine will be a riding jacket.
I have also...
Beautiful jacket Oli. Love the American cold weather military jackets but have always thought the shearling would be a devil to keep clean particularly the sleeves and hem. I'd be too conscious of forever trying to steer clear of brushing up on muddy cars etc.
Hmmm. I asked for samples of and assumed what I received were the regular heavy weight fqhh. If the oil pull is all midweight than the brown non-pull fqhh sample I received must be mid-weight too because they are definitely the same thickness (however the vintage sample I received was noticeably...
Really love the Bootlegger style. What lining did you opt for Hoosier? The BL with zip sleeves is what I will be ordering as well as it will be used for motorcycling. I really like bi-swing backs but I'm not sure if Aero will put a bi-swing on the BL due to its epaulets (which I think read in a...
The oil pull fqhh I received was easily as thick as the regular heavy fqhh. Also I don't see any 'suede like' effect at all in the oil pull sample, if anything it has slightly more sheen than the reg. fqhh. Also between the two the oil pull is demonstrably more "waxy feeling" than the reg. fqhh...
Do you or would you prefer one over the other? I'd love to know. Oil pull or regular fqhh?
After handling the Aero samples of both now for a couple of months I'm unable to decide which to use for a Bootlegger order.
The regular fqhh feels noticeably drier and crisper than the oil pull and...
Have to admit that is a splendid looking jacket in cordovan. I think I would have the cuff straps lowered a little though, they always look a little high to me.
I think one other very nice thing about this jacket design is they attached the collar correctly (IMHO), so many cafe jackets have the collar stitched on outside on top of the shoulders instead being correctly stitched such that the collar emerges from beneath the shoulders. When done the...
