I'm afraid I don't have near the pedigree as you fellows. I only became interested in leather jackets a year or two ago after buying a motorcycle.
I bought a $100 made in Pakistan cowhide moto jacket figuring that would be more than sufficient based on the sales pitch. While the leather was...
I would be interested to hear what it was you didn't like about the look of the jacket as it broke in more.
I certainly agree with your point about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Personally I'm still on the fence about ordering a non-black Aero H/H, I suspect black doesn't exhibit...
Does anyone know where I might be able to source a sample of hh or cow veg-tan, or a veg re-tan sample. I keep reading conflicting info on which tannage was prevalent pre-50's, chrome or veg (or veg re-tan).
If any member has a sample they could spare (or loan) I would greatly appreciate it. I...
Wow! fabulous jacket! The goatskin leather looks really good, quite smooth looking, not overly pebbly like some.
PS. Any particular reason you chose goatskin?
Which model is your steerhide JL? For comparison sake I have a 'Brando' style moto jacket that was advertised as 1.1 - 1.2 mm. cow. It weighs approx. 5.5 lb.
Based on my Brando I would think anything over 7-8 lb. might be onerous, especially if bi-swing backs are involved as another member...
Nice jacket collection CBI but I especially like the Goodwear for its single tone HH, really nice looking leather. I find single tone hh much more natural looking than two tone 'marbling' effect.
* what is "VLJ" ?
.
This will be an interesting jacket and look forward to seeing it when it arrives. What would be the reason for opting for 'true two piece sleeves' compared to another sleeve variation, 3 piece I presume. Does one sleeve style provide something of benefit over another?
Very nice indeed, its quality is so evident. The leather certainly doesn't look 'suede like' in the pictures and looks like my recent oil pull sample. Perhaps the oil pull leather that exhibited a 'suede effect' hasn't been part of Aero's stock for sometime now.
I definitely prefer the American cuff. Button cuffs for some reason don't look right to me on heavy outerwear, somewhat anachronistic. For me button cuffs are meant for shirts, full stop.
Thats a lot of cow! The beard absolutely rounds out the effect. Nice jacket.
If I'm not mistaken Halvarssons is a Swedish leather jacket builder, some of their motorcycle jacket designs are nice. (Don't know what their rep for quality is though.)
First let me say that I really enjoy the Outerwear forum and its jacket pictures especially, I think the forum is great as are the very nice people who make up the membership. That said I wish the website (had) allowed jacket pictures to be stored in the forums memory. As I go back through...
Don't agree, I think the straps just haven't been cinched up in the picture, they're hanging loose and therefore doesn't look right. As for being "too tight on the waist" that is the style of the jacket, it fits like a "jean jacket". I bet the jacket has relaxed quite a bit by now giving a...
Yes I noted that you found the zippers to be less than stellar. I wonder how difficult or expensive it would be to replace the zip with a better quality version?
I have a sewing machine which I have decided to take up as a hobby now that I've retired but as yet have not tackled it.
PS. It so...
Forgive me, I have run across references to "COW" which I am assuming is a leather jacket forum but haven't been able to discover its URL despite forum and Google searches, can someone help?
Well I went ahead and ordered a navy blue Alpha MA-1. Didn't realize how many different colours can be had: ie: navy blue, vintage blue, washed, od green, sage green, vintage and a green described as an "A&T green" whatever that is. Thinking I might get a second one in sage green as the jackets...
I do the same thing :), however the Aero vintage fqhh sample I recently received doesn't look anywhere as dark as the jacket above which to my mind looks pretty close the the regular brown fqhh sample. The jacket design is really great. I hope blethook can/will post some out of doors pictures...
