The seller "Dazzerdog" takes cowboy hats and steams the brims to make them look fedora like and recreases them (without blocks) to a basic diamond fedora. I don't think he is cutting them though of course maybe it was that way when he got it.
I also don't care for his replacement outer bands...
Most likely the seller made a typo when entering the weight of the item hence the ridiculous shipping and would they really try to charge the buyer that or not correct it when the buyer raises a flag.
Also, would ebay really try to hold the buyer to paying that high shipping? Maybe if it...
I couldn't find that hat under completed listings until I searched under the seller's name. Using the words from the description heading including the entire set of words doesn't find it at all for me. Search stings one would reasonably expect to find it don't....
Since the hat was listed...
I would argue that the shorter life bulbs as a conspiracy is mythology.
The old bulbs are either carbon filament (the oldest ones) or thick tungsten and in either case generates much more heat than visible light. Sure they can last a long time but sure are dim compared to a comparable...
That certain seller that has had some very nice hats for sure including Whippets but must have extremely high reserve amounts as even with very high bids received they don't sell has added a rather ridiculous comment to his current listings:
Dear Fence sitters/watcher. Either shiat or...
There is photographic evidence of male hats being worn higher (photos of the general public in large gatherings) and vintage advertising also depicts hats being worn higher.
I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of pictures and advertising images prior to the moving pictures era with hats...
Yeah, back then even poor people were well dressed even if their clothes weren't clean or with holes, etc. Today too many people look like slobs regardless of financial status. I'm always amazed when some entertainment and sports celebrities come on late night talk shows looking like slobs...
BTW, the new Dust Bowl series also has some hat images. Probably more of them being blown off of heads. There is one scene of a guy, probably in OK, chasing his hat down the street!
It is always fun to look at old photos and vintage film of the clothing/hats being worn.
I like watching old movies on TCM and some of the movies I've seen enough times that I'm starting to spend more time just observing the hats and how they wear them more than paying attention to the movie...
Moths like darkness for breeding and laying their eggs (which is what turns into the felt eating larva). Keeping things in the light does reduce the risk of damage. But those nasty critters can climb into dark areas of clothing like pockets, inside liners, under sweatbands/hat liners, etc so...
Somewhere I have a document of a research study on moth control I'll have to look for it and could post a link to it) that says cedar in the closet or boxes is of limited effectiveness for controlling the wool/fur/silk destroying moth. Even the ol' moth ball is not a perfect solution either...
