I did a search and couldn't find any mention anywhere so here goes...anyone seen Resistols with the "Kodiak" finish? This is a long hair nap felt. I saw one recently on consignment. Didn't have a camera with me so have no picts, but I am going back and may try to get some picts to post if...
I just can't bring myself to wear either a vintage hat or a good modern fur felt (some moderns for obvious reasons) if I know there is any great chance of rain or it is already raining before i go out....
I have some oil tanned cotton canvas hats--one is a Cabela's made by Outback looks more...
FYI, I ordered mine several days ago so I think we are probably past the magic number..... I decided to stay with my normal size as the next size up means padding and I'd rather not. I sure wish front-to-back and side-to-side measurements along with circumference was provided for factory hats.....
Personally I hate it when any pictures are posted of the hat being worn, unless perhaps by an attractive female! :D In any case such pictures mean modern stuff so easy to skip or ignore....
Today I talked to the gal at my local western gear retailer who carries a lot of Beaver Brand western hats and she confirmed that she had also heard of their closing. She said that she had talked to them recently and heard they were closing though she didn't have any details as to the reasons...
Just think of the ad of a man wearing a wide brimmed fedora surrounded by gorgeous women---I bet sales would go thru the roof! Hat Co....you listening????? Maybe call it Fedora Club for men??? :D
CCJ, Have you tried Heritage Auction's website? There should be lots of famous fedora info on there. YOu have to register I think, but it's free to look once you do so.
Don't live near them, but did try calling them on Friday and the voice mail says they are open till 4:30 Mon-Thurs so will try again Monday. If I learn anything I'll let everyone know. If only vintage hats hadn't been consuming my hat deficit spending I would have ordered a BB fedora and at...
When Heritage Auctions held the John Wayne estate auction (last year?) I seem to recall there was a John Ford fedora in the collection. I think it got something like $5K, but memory is fuzzy on that. If you search their website you can probably find it and possible other hats as well since...
Do you know how stiff the felt on the crown is? Wondering how hard to reshape it might be...
Looks like many of the online retailers that used to list Beaver are no longer doing so.
Since most of their orders seemed to be with a wait time stock is probably going to be scarce. :(
It was be interesting to see the customer. Must be a rather large person or at least one would hope so as such a large head assumes a large body!
I wonder what size ol Andre the Giant was....
Doing some google searches many of the stores that used to carry their products no longer do so. I know that often the hats were special ordered rather than stocked so it will probably be hard to find many new stock to buy. Darn! There were a few models I was hoping to buy but my budget kept...
There definitely has been a trend since at least the late 70's for Western style wear to be more about the honky tonk and urban cowboy scene than the attire of cowboys and farmers. Around here most farmers wear ballcaps and most horse people are only wearing hats on horseback and then it's...
It could be that the hat wasn't the proper circumference. However I have experienced more problems with the oval shape being the cause usually because of differences in hat blocks oval dimensions rather than the circumference being wrong--though of course a hat could have been mislabeled or...
Well there was something of a rebellion against these traditions starting in the late 60's with the boomer/youth/Vietnam era and those people are now in their 60's and 70's! The casualness sadly is even effecting those in their 80's and 90's.
Who knows maybe we are just moving to following...
Unfortunately as ball caps have become the predominant hat type and they are treated more like a casual thing no one treats them like a hat in the old school sense anymore. I've noticed that even people in their 50's and 60's don't remove hats when visiting private homes or other indoor...
No response from my email to them. Guess a phone call is required to see if a live person answers---doesn't look too promising.
I imagine profit margins and sales volumes are generally very tight for these companies especially with non-Western hats. The analysis that Western hats are the main...
