Being hesitant to say anymore about this topic because it isn't clear if anything good can come from it I'll cautiously offer one final observation.
It seems most of the anti-hat backlash is geared to the under forty crowd by others under 40. Those of us over that age either are ignored or...
I'll second that motion!
Looks like at least some loungers responded to her story at the source. That's the best place to respond to her since of course she'll also never read it here. I found she has a pattern of anger and fear issues so I found it more entertaining to comment on one of...
Frank, I wish I could get large size 50+ year old hats with wide brims for $20.00. It does happen, but not too often on ebay. Now small size hats with narrow brims are much easier game to bag on ebay. You have much fewer competitors so it's not surprising you win those auctions.
Both of the articles cited here simply prove that the world is overrun with pseudo-journalists and pseudo-writers who are terrible at writing and are mostly skilled at making fallacious arguments. The only value I find in it would be if I could have had it to use in formal logic classes I took...
Never mind. I found it: http://books.google.com/books?id=3_ZYAAAAYAAJ&pg=RA4-PA89&lpg=RA4-PA89&dq=twenty-five+years+of+hat+style&source=bl&ots=CbIJNEn8zy&sig=yf8UTJ9R0pcNyK1I6ysz9jppx-Q&hl=en&sa=X&ei=0n8JUeyGIOiY2wXoh4CoAQ&ved=0CDMQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=twenty-five%20years%20of%20hat%20style&f=false
Now if we could just find a stash of these in NOS that haven't been touched by the elements or moths in an old store warehouse. And for some of us in the larger sizes! You never know what might turn up.
Thanks for sharing these.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have paid that much for that one either. But OR's even in poor shape tend to get more money. Doesn't make sense but it happens fairly often....
EA sent me an email on the 23 that it was shipped and Australia post says "Not trackable" and USPS shows something like "being prepared for shipment." [huh] I selected the standard shipping. Until at least 10 weekdays elapse I'm not going to worry.
I'm not too surprised about a 70's OR getting that much. Because it is an OR there are plenty of people on ebay that will pay for it. Seen it happen many times.
Looks like you are correct on the Stetson Hempstead as the seller of the second one sold bought the earlier one from Vintage Comics. But the second one sold for over a hundred less than was paid for the earlier sale. Not a very good return on investment!
Great example of a seller who is experienced (thousands of feedbacks) and obviously does this for an income stream and yet 1) doesn't know how to use a camera and 2) can't figure out that the hat just might be more important to the buyer than the box......
Seems like for every consummate...
BTW, I think that is really a 70's hat or possibly even newer. In any case with a small head you can probably find similar styled hats from the later 50's/early 60's if you want the short brim that are much nicer.
Whenever I find a hat that is located nearby I try to contact the seller and see if 1) I can get a pre-purchase look at it 2) try to haggle a good price outside of ebay. Just a thought.... ;)
As for value it is whatever it is 1) worth to you and 2) how much would you have to pay for it if...
In retrospect I should have kept my trap shut instead of giving those who might take offense at this harmless little thing a bad time---the whole point of my stating my opinion on it. What can I say except I gave in to temptation!
Glad for you it is doing very well in the bidding though...
That's a great look! :eusa_clap I would think that would fit in perfectly in the Dakotas.
That would fit right in here in most parts of Idaho except maybe Boise which is our closest thing to a city if you can call around 300K or so people that. You still see Westerns worn in Boise, but not as...
Generally hats come off easily if they are too loose especially if the hat is sitting as low as you describe. I'm curious to know more about it blowing off since you state you don't find it to be too loose other than coming off easily. Are we talking strong wind gusts or light breezes? Seems...
