I agree, sizing down three full sizes is a bit extreme unless you really like an ultra-slim fit. I am a true size 42 and ordered a size 40 -- and I had to send my Veste de Rallye back as it was larger than specified in terms of circumference. In retrospect I might have been better off sizing...
As I mentioned on SF, that's a very nice jacket.
I didn't realize you had a zipper pocket. I can see the value, as I was recently hiking in the woods and was paranoid about losing my wallet. I bought a pair of REI hiking pants that has a single zipped cargo pocket on the right thigh (the...
Sorry I missed this post. I have been traveling. To clarify, the out-of-spec measurement for my Veste de Rallye was the circumference, not the length of the body or sleeves.
I got the measurement for my body and sleeves from my other Aero, a Highwayman. I wanted the same length sleeves...
If it helps, check out the video and pictures here on how to measure your sleeves on an existing jacket using a measuring tape. I've purchased a few suits and sportsjackets from this made-to-measure suit vendor, and I used the same measurements to order my Aero jackets and made-to-measure dress...
Glad to hear it. In fact I think you made the better choice (having them make a new one vs fixing the old one). I sent back my new Veste de Rallye in February as it was out of spec by a siginificant amount. However, as I didn't want to wait another seven months for a new jacket, I asked them...
Sleeves look great to me. I like my sleeves slightly on the longer side; if you ride a motorcycle your sleeves should be a touch longer anyway as your arms will be up most of the time.
I'm still waiting for a Randall #19 I ordered in 2007. It's coming in 2012! Sorry for the hijack.
Edit: to keep this relevant, I'm still waiting on my Veste de Rallye to come back from Aero. It's been about 9 weeks now.
For me, it was not a wasp but a june bug splatting into my faceshield at highway speeds (I-95). My MSF instructor said always wear a full face helmet and he was right!
I've been away from TFL for some months now due to work but wanted to report back on my Veste de Rallye.

Great looking jacket, HD. I have three Vansons myself and have always loved their gear.
Strange that you sized up? I'm a natural size 42 but I usually size down to a size 40 for OTR jackets. My Vansons are OTR and at size 40 they fit very well; my only complaint would be that the torso could...
I have a Vanson ProPerf Force with the mesh lining. I can take pics for you if you'd like.
I agree, it is not vintage at all. But when you're riding your motorcycle in the heat of summer, it is much more comfortable than standard rayon or nylon.
Good point. I threw all my final specs into a Word document and emailed it to Mark. That way it's all in one place.
On the measuring front, they say that the measuring tape never lies. Remember the "Big Mac" thread from a few months back? While weight is a sensitive issue for some...
Have you considered a perforated leather jacket with mesh nylon lining? Vanson has quite a few motorcycle jackets with this style; I'm sure Aero may be able to do the same thing.
Edit: that leather strip seems like a good idea. Wish I'd thought of that when I ordered my Highwayman. No...
I have a pair of Iron Rangers. I too sized down 0.5 size, based on what I read about Red Wing sizing. I normally wear a 8.5D so I went with a 8.0D.
I wear my boots with thick socks and I think the 8.0D fits well. I didn't think they are overly narrow but then again I might have narrower...
Not only that, I find customer feedback to be much more credible and valuable than contacting the manufacturer.
The manufacturer is trying to sell you something. Loungers are not. Who's more likely to give me a straight answer?
I also think posting our wait times has actually reduced...
You too eh? I also got a rather sharp email from Mark about my discussions with my alleged "friends" here at the Lounge. lol
Regardless, Mark is a good guy and gives first class service -- for things that are within his control. He really does try to make things right for you if things...
Well it appears I was wrong. All the eBay listings on Aero USA have been revised to the new (higher) prices. feltfan, looks like you got in just under the wire!
Papa, you may be right but it would seem like a very underhanded way of circumventing eBay's rules on changing auction details. Under those rules, the seller can generally reduce the price but cannot increase it.
From eBay's policy on editing your listings:
In any event, based on my...
It appears the price increases haven't made their way to the USA eBay listings yet.
As an example, the Highwayman is now 500 pounds (formerly 425 pounds?) but Mark's eBay listing still has it pegged at $675. If you figure $1.60/GBP (as of today, per xe.com), 500 GBP = $800 USD. I do not...
