When I was a student I was too poor to afford a car so I commuted using my motorcycle. Riding in the winter was no fun. Sometimes I would show up to class looking like the Michelin Man with all my layers on.
I highly recommend getting a windproof textile jacket and a heated vest. The B3...
^^ Jan, I'm with you! While I realize the VdR is intended to be boxy, for those who can get away with a taper I think it makes the look much sleeker. In a big jacket I feel like I'm wearing a cavernous pillowcase. I can't wait until the weather gets colder so I can finally wear that jacket.
If your Griz is new and unworn, I think it would be instructive to compare it to Aero's pricing on their sale jackets, which are basically new jackets that were returned by a customer as not fitting correctly. Aero seems to knock off 100 GBP from the price of a new, made-to-order jacket. While...
I agree with Edward, you'll be fine. Not only because of Amanda, but because the Highwayman is a relaxed fit jacket in its standard form. If you're a true size 36 chest, a size 36 jacket will leave you plenty of room. As an example, I'm a true size 42 with a size 40 Highwayman -- and it still...
Roger that, and your grandmom was right. I only learned by reading this forum and from experience ordering from Aero myself. [huh]
My best guess is that Aero figures that people "fudge" measurements. With the recent trend towards "vanity sizing" in men's denim, I can understand if this is...
Why not take your own detailed measurements and send them to Aero? I don't think they've ever ignored additional data provided by their customers.
On my last order with Aero I sent them at least two measurements that they don't "require" via their order form. I even sent pictures with a...
^^ Another thought is checking Aero's website for their "sale" jackets. I believe those jackets are new but sell at about 100GBP less than a newly custom made jacket. They're on sale because a customer returned them as being out of spec ... but if they fit you, you get a brand new jacket for a...
I wish more companies would feature that as an option. As a teenager I had a black US Army raincoat that had pass-through pockets. In the winter it was great not to have to open up one's coat to get to one's wallet or keys; just reach through the pass through and you're set.
Navin, if you want a compromise between clean looks and functionality, how about hidden handwarmer pockets?
Edit: this is what I mean by "hidden handwarmer" pockets.
This is a customized Vanson Comet. The "eyebrow" pockets (like on the Highwayman) have been removed, and the Mandarin collar...
^^ Hm. In the alternative, I would take a tape measure and provide Aero with a circumference measurement that suits your needs.
I did something similar when I ordered my Veste de Rallye; it too is a boxy jacket that does not normally have a taper. I was afraid that the waist would be too...
I agree with Jimmer, just tell Aero your waist measurement and then tell them how you want it to fit (loose, close, baggy, etc.). They'll take care of it for you.
gyro, great stuff. I especially like the extendable badge holder (?) on the German jacket. It seems like a much more elegant solution than the badge grommets featured in Vanson Force jacket.
For you folks looking at Taylors, you may want to check their ebay Store. A while back...
I like it. Two suggestions, based on my experience:
1. On your internal pockets, specify whether you want horizontal or vertical pockets. Some refer to the latter as "gun pockets" as they permit an easier cross draw (if you're into that kind of thing -- I never carry using my Highwayman's...
^^ Geronimo, I like that a lot. :eusa_clap I wish I was a bit taller, then I could wear a double-breasted coat like that. It looks great on you, especially with the tie.
PS I don't know if you've ever played the video game Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City. If you get the...
Ted,
As you want a "moto" jacket I'm assuming you're a rider. If so, of the companies on your list only Vanson and Fox Creek offer armored jackets. That may help you narrow your options. I own several armored Vansons and am very happy with them.
:eusa_clap I am between bikes right now but if I get another one I think I may shelve my perforated black Vanson Force and buy one in battleship or pearl gray. The sun beating down on a black leather jacket during the summer is no fun at all! I think you made a great choice ordering one in a...
Sorry for the delay. Here it is:
Aero Veste de Rallye
- Medium weight horsehide, black
- Size 40 (true size: 42)
- Jetted pockets
- Bi-swing back
- No storm cuffs
- Black alpaca lining
- 2 interior pockets, snap closure
- Pronounced taper (see below for detail)
I specified a jetted...
I went through a (now defunct) dealer. I would recommend going to a dealer if possible.
Dealers should be able to measure you for custom fit (if you decide to do so), and there is a special Vanson measuring tool that my dealer used to spec me out. Even if you are not ordering custom the...
univibe, sorry I have been lax in getting pics up. It's very hot here (90 degrees F). I'll have to get some pics up soon.
PSA: the Bing Cash Back program is ending in July 2010. If you want to save 8% off an Aero jacket ordered from Aero's USA ebay store, you'd better do it this month...
