Good day, fellas. Here's my initiation to join this here society. Early 40's Stratoliner with 5'' crown and 2 3/8'' brim. At first I wasn't really a fan of the Stratoliner/OR style, but it has really grown on me. Just need to get a good bash into it.
Managed to meet Karolyn Grimes, the woman who played Zuzu Bailey in It's A Wonderful Life, at the Portland antique expo. She was with a vendor who was selling Jimmy Stewart memorabilia (posters, autographs, lobby cards, et al). She seemed like a nice lady.
LA seems to be a hot spot for vintage clothing and vendors. I've heard there are frequent flea markets and other vending events there, especially in the summer, of course. I don't know any specific events, but see if there are any accessible ones when you're in town. Paper Moon Vintage is...
Happy Tuesday, gents. Here's my response to Alan's admittedly better Stetson straw. Still trying to master the art of taking hat photos, like you guys do. 90+ degrees today, this 1940's boater keeps me cooler than that Sea Spray straw. Glad I made the switch. This one takes a bit of courage to...
Hey all,
I've been meaning to amass a little collection of these types of ties. If anyone has any vintage brocades that they're willing to let go, please let me know! Thanks.
Goodness, this lid looks fresh out of the 1930's! I'll have to show off my old Stetson boater as well. This ought to be in the "Lovely Liners" thread, if not already posted there.
Gorgeous OR-look-a-like, B. Don't recognize the maker. Does the Air-O-Lite sweat actually work like its supposed...
Is that so?
I recall seeing several movies from as early as the 40's where, if I may be honest, the tailoring was pretty horrendous. Some of the actors' suits looked pretty RTW and wide cut, and not in a flattering, "bold" way. I expect this more from period photographs of people who may have...
I guess the new Champ fedora wasn't enough for you? :D
Kidding, I understand your desire to develop a wide variety of hats to rotate between.
There have been several threads on flat caps, and I think the consensus is that if you want something other than the mundane driver's cap you'll see in...
Yep, this would be one of those brocades I'm crazy about. The finer ones were usually made of silk, but the rayon brocades are still cooler than the average tie a man wore in the day. Wear this one with pride.
Great colors and patterns on the tie! They really compliment the summer/early fall...
Here's a thread about spade soles on modern shoes: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/spade-soles-on-modern-shoes.49414/page-2
Seems like a few makers still do the spade sole, but it is almost exclusively a feature on true vintage pairs. It's a shame, because spade sole oxfords are some of...
