I guess it´s the same reason why there is so many catholics in southern germany... The traditions didn´t die out there, but why? Maybe it´s just the nature of people from mountains.
I love it!
However, collecting clothes you are never going to wear is a distant idea for me. And you´re not gonna wear these historical pieces, are you?
As I was thinking it over and over, it´s not a bad holiday at all!
All these naive, vulnerable bimbos, who believe in the Valentine´s day, but have never been on a second date... Looks like a source of perfect targets for some non-gentleman behaviour. The thing is, am I so wicked to do that?
We can broaden this to "any clothes with a certain purpose worn without serving its purpose", which includes all kinds of sportswear worn while not sporting, camouflage clothes worn without need of hiding oneself etc. That´s equally silly as e.g. wearing riding outfit for a walk through the city :)
It´s not an added compliment, stockings are mandatory for all women all the time (according the etiquette, if only all women knew that). But agreed, seamed stockings are unbelievably hot.
Oh my God! They must be kidding me!
The after-party is in a club where is no coat check, so I would have to take care of my hat in a place with 200+ teenagers with no respect for other´s personal belongings, especially hats... That´s impossible! I will not put up with this!
Thank you all, so far!
I asked my closest friends the same questions and it seems it will be number one. I like it too.
The sleeves are a bit short, but nobody will notice. It also has quite low armholes, but I´m not really into dancing, so it shall be no problem. It´s good for standing at...
Everyone can dress nicely for their job. Almost anything different and tastefully put together can be clasified as "nice".
I have a job in office (real estates/tourism) and even though I´ve had only about three clients in the office since I work there (two months) and my boss (who lives just...
I really hate to bring this up again, and I´m quite sure about your answers, but still, I need an advice.
There is my old high school´s prom this thursday. The proms here are quite different from the american ones, judging from what I´ve seen in movies. They are supposed to be more traditional...
This book I was talking about is called "Společenský katechismus" (Social Catechism) and is by Jiří Guth-Jarkovský (1861-1943), who was president Masaryk´s Master of Ceremonies. He wrote about eight other books on the etiquette topic, all of them interesting, but a bit outdated. The oldest issue...
So you call the furry velvet-like finish of the felt "velour". Interesting.
What´s more interesting, I have one of these in my possession! I guess it´s one of those that Hitler himself would probably wear...If he was chained to a post somewhere in Siberia and had nothing to put on his head:)...
As a confirmed bachelor and enemy of long-term relationships, I do not celebrate this holiday of capitalism :)
It´s quite difficult this year, because I have one girl in my sight and of course, I can´t start any moves with this day so near. The same applies to birthday :)
Drew B You can be happy that people tell you to leave it unbuttoned. (even if it bothers you) Yesterday I was asked by some ladies why I always wear the last button undone. I explained it the same way I explained it to you and it was very new to them. They said that they always tell their men to...
Drew B
The last button on the jackets is usually left unbuttoned, because if you button it, you´ll ruin the shape of the jacket.
However, I´ve already noticed that it doesn´t affect the shape of an average modern jacket, so I guess it´s up to you.
(I leave mine unbuttoned, even though I...
Of course, but what are these ties for, then? They are not usable according to the etiquette...
edit: yes, these modern too long ties are equally bad. And what about the patterns... There are in fact about three ties today - stripes leaning to the left, stripes leaning to the right and plain...
There´s already been written more than enough on this topic, but I just found an interesting inconsistency in all our theories on tie´s length.
This is a screenshot I captured from a movie from 1937:
And now what? The guy in the middle is very well dressed through the whole movie, so...
I see that the pictures for inspiration are not strictly in Art Deco, so I may enter with my two cents - This is more like Art Nouveau/Art Deco fusion, but more Nouveau, all from the Municipal House, Prague:

There was a documentary on TV recently about Martin Borman, I managed to capture a few screenshots...
Snap brim, Borman style... In Obersalzberg
This is a very nice hat:
And I believe this one is already here, but not in such detail:
And BTW, there are plenty of pictures with Hitler...
This thread really made me think about starting an art deco lounge in Prague. In some time, I may know exactly the right people to support this kind of bussiness. Who knows, maybe in a few years...
There´s no way it can be so stylish and luxury as The Cicada, but... We all can have dreams :)
