    The Details, a Sewing Resource

In the second post that I "reserved", I'll just have areas that denote decade or embellishment type, and have links to the post or just put a span of pages, like 21-24 if there's a bunch of things posted with the same theme. It wouldn't be difficult as long as I updated as things were posted...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I think if you know you always have an issue with the size chart being "wrong", you should probably try making a muslin first so that if you have any problems, you're using cheap fabric instead of the nice fabric you want for your garment. Try measuring the pattern's design ease as well. Here...

    The Details, a Sewing Resource

1950s, clothing (skirt), embroidery, trim This is a 50s skirt that was sold on Etsy a little while ago. I love it and would really like to re-create it one day! There are embroidered bees embellished with small, yellow rhinestones and three rows of trim (it looks rope-ish?) around the...

    The Details, a Sewing Resource

This thread, "The Details - A Sewing Resource", is an on-going research project into the use of embellishments used on clothing from the 1920s-1950s. It was created for seamstresses who may be looking to achieve historical accuracy in a garment or just some inspiration. Start at the beginning or...

Thanks kamikat! What method do you use? I bought those wave clips a little while ago but before that I tried using just my fingers which is hard because my hands are small, haha.

So cute, DPD! I should be saving up to finish my half-sleeve right now buuut: Hood! Dreamy. Now I really need to put my foot down and not buy new patterns until I sew the mounting project pile.

It's weird because it's just one side of my head that reacts that way! I think I may also be brushing them out too much. I'd never know you had trouble with your hair, though! I really liked your hair in that most recent photo you posted! Fingerwaves are another thing I need to work on. :x

    Show us your hair do's....

Is 30s hair supposed to have layers or is that up to the individual? I'm in the last stage of growing my hair out (waiting for the shortest layer to reach the right length), but I've been practicing pin curls and I wonder if that's the reason they don't come out quite right? Most of them want to...

Whoops! Sorry LD! ;) Ditto on the pricing! For some reason that particular pattern was on sale for $11 from $22. Didn't ask, just went for it!

I've been looking for a pattern like this FOREVER. Super simple 30s skirt - no pleats or flare or nothin'. A bonus about this one is that you can attach a slip bodice which is really cute and functional. The seller I got this from is having free shipping right now if you want to check out their...

The shortest hair in the 40s and 50s?

I think it would be difficult to say "this is the shortest hair you would ever see in this time period" because it seems like once hair was bobbed, the "rules" changed. Leslie Caron in the 50s: Audrey Hepburn: I've had my hair a little shorter than Leslie Caron's above.

Thank you Smuterella!! By set low, do you mean not curled all the way to the top? Which way do you roll the pin curls? Sorry for my cluelessness!

I don't have her length, but how could one approximate Jean Arthur's 'do?:

NicoleAnn, muslin is a type of fabric but it also refers to the practice of sewing something up in a cheapy fabric, like muslin, if you think you might have fitting issues and want to work them out before cutting into your more expensive fabric and potentially messing it up.

Thank you!! I'm glad you like them! Whenever I get around to posting the outfit on my blog I'll make sure to point everyone to your shop! They were so easy to make and I wear them all the time.
