LD, I wish I was related to you so I could guilt you into making me things. :)
lottie, absolutely gorgeous! I like the print. Beautiful dresses by everyone, really!
Ooookay. I need to line a sleeveless bodice for a dress I'm making, and there are a lot of different guides/tutorials online but none with pictures and they're so confusing! I just tried to hash it out by myself and um.. had to leave it alone and go away for a while. Any tips ya'll can offer? :(
Is there any type of jersey similar to what was used um, back then? There's rayon jersey on sale at JoAnn's and I like their colors, but it looks very lightweight, like uber.
kiltie, I think I might be the girl to help you! I used to have hair a little shorter than hers for a while, but eventually I wanted something a little more vintage looking and something I could style. This is a photo of what my hair looks like straight, but in the back it's very short, there's...
I had tattoos before I started dressing vintage in earnest, so I was already getting looks. Honestly it doesn't influence what I wear at all because I figure no matter what I do, someone's going to stare and I shouldn't waste any time or thought on them, unless they're pleasant of course. :)
Nothing too exciting - white cotton skirt from my no-frills 30s pattern! I didn't get a shot of the weave which is why I picked this particular fabric. It's rip-stop from JoAnns. I got red gum all over the back from someone sticking it under a seat. :(
Today! Skirt sewn by me from a 1930s pattern, the top is supposedly 70s but I thought the grommet/lacing was a very 30s detail.
Day before yesterday. Dress sewn by me!
A girl in my morning class, with whom I'm becoming fast friends because she's a historical costumer and also watches Buffy, said she looks forward to me coming into class every day because of my outfits. :D
Yay, my Civil War dress! .. that sounds like a weird thing to be happy about. Anyway, I'm really happy with how this turned out! I can see myself using this pattern many more times. There's more information about it on my blog.
I used a red-and-white striped fabric for the sleeve stiffener to...
kamikat, good luck! Your storyboard looks great! I love the look of everything, the blouses are especially cute. I should start to think of my to-sew list as a contest, maybe I'd get started (and finished) on things faster, ha.
1940s, dress, sequins, motif (animals/snake)
This amazing dress is on Etsy right now. Brown rayon crepe dress from the 40s, and I'm guessing the tail-end of the 40s because it has 2 metal zippers. The main body of the snake is composed of sequins, and it looks the outline might be...
1930s, separates (pants), motif (nautical/sailboat)
I used this image on my blog because I like her hair, but I also love her outfit! Note the sailboat at the left pant hem. This could have been silkscreened on by the manufacturer, a process that has been around for a very long time, but...
