Based on the two Campdrafts I have, the Stetson is by far a better hat. I basically just wear the Akubras when I know it's going to rain. I know some people think they're really nice, but the felt on the new Stratoliners are nicer.

I don't wear a dark brown hat with my seal brown A-2... I wear most any other color (but not grey). I have a "sand" color thin ribbon that I most often wear with that jacket, though I have worn a bluegrass green Campdraft or a navy Alessandria with it.
In general, I like a lighter color hat...
On you, the fez works.
My rabbit-fur ushanka...
Hm, that was back 40lbs ago...
Actually, I rarely get bad comments on it. I mostly get a favorable response. Going to order a long Russian wool coat to go with it.

An interesting thread, indeed. I don't tip the hat, no one would understand what it meant. I basically put it on when I put my coat on. I leave it on in a store, a crowded saloon, most anywhere I am not sitting. If I am sitting down, I almost always take it off, unless there is absolutely...
That one is a wreck. You'd need a new ribbon, new sweat, and hope like crazy you can get it clean... which I don't think you can.
There's no percentage in buying a wreck because then you're stuck with a bill that is equivalent to what you'd pay for a good one. That's why I was willing to pay...
I think it's our responsibility to not overload someone new to hats with too much "today's hats are junk!" and more "this is what you can get that will be good quality for you to wear."
Tom
Who goes around feeling up their hats all day? When you're wearing it, all you can feel is the sweatband. As for looks... if you don't like how it looks, don't buy it!
And who cares who made it?
The point I'm trying to make is that buying a hat to wear, none of this really matters all that...
It honestly doesn't pay to get all bent out of shape over this, especially if you're like me and all you want to do is wear the darn thing and not "collect" it. The only reason I have them is to wear them and I don't give a flying rat's butt whether it's new or vintage or who made it. If it...
I handled one at Brass Rooster but didn't pay that close attention to it. It was a lot lighter and it felt a lot less stiff. There was some pink to it. They had it creased in a cattleman (it was a display model) but I didn't mess with it much, if at all. I should head back and look at it more...
The two that I have are decent hats. The not-premier Stratoliners are decent hats too, though some on here unfairly rip on them.
I think the Borsalino Alessandria is a better choice, though, with respect to the felt.
Tom
There are tons of them on ebay... if you don't mind paying. :-)
I did pay about $300 for one on ebay... but it was practically new, and still plenty stiff.
Tom
Has anyone yet had a chance to compare the Premier Stratoliner in silver belly to the non-premier version? I'm wondering about the color and whether it is different enough to merit buying, as I already have the previous version in silver belly, and if the color is mostly the same, then there's...
