What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Thanks J. I have it narrowed down to 3 possible ways to stop the squeaking: Water, powder, conditioner. I am thinking in maybe that order. I am hoping sensei Panda chimes in, he specializes in JL and CXL. lol.

I have yet to take the maiden voyage with my new jacket. I have only sat on my bike and made fake motor noises so far. lol. I might have had Born To Be Wild playing also (jk).

I hope to do a mini review when I can get some pics on the bike and spend some time on the road.

Sensei Panda lol. Classic. He does have loads of jacket wisdom.

Soon enough the weather will break and it’s back on the road. The new Low Rider ST is calling me.

This is the noise offender. I have about 150+ hours of mostly indoor wear on it. I have shoveled snow in it a few times. I have not had it on the bike yet, or exposed to water. It is taking a long time to break in.

How about your heavy hides? are the loud? have they quieted any? My JL is crazy loud.

Thats one awesome jacket RK!
I too have been baffled by the squeaky noises on my jackets. So much so I did some experiment, by applying a coat of mink oil to the non squeak one, and then f me the squeak started.
Just waiting for a sunny day to come by to complete the second part of my experiment. I’m hoping an afternoon of sun tanning will open up the surface pores enough for the oil top coat to break down into the leather, and then stops squeaking. Just a theory.
And yes if sun tanning doesn’t work then it’s bath time, just cold water. It usually does the trick.
Hope you get your squeaky Jacket ready in time for the prime riding weather these coming weeks! Not too hot but sunny.

This Vanson is poorly stitched, peeling, and squeakier than Nikes on a freshly waxed floor, but it does make me look cooler than I actually am...

Can't wait to see it. Hope you can find one. New Harleys are scarce in my area.

Thanks Panda. I am also baffled with this absurd squeaking going on. My 618 was rather noisy when I first got it. I had it on the other day, and it was almost silent. I did have that one soaked in a down pour. I am not sure if the noise went away right after that or not. The 618 was noisy, but no way close to the CXLHH.

Lockdown extended for ten more days. I have easily enough basic food, clean water and seasonings, but I had not accurately laid in the amount of Italian red wine, bracing scotch or cold beer I would need in this eventuality.

Nothing for it but to sit around drinking strong coffee and listening to Scott Walker in a Cafe Racer. I've smashed the hell out of this one:

Wow! that is an amazing looking jacket !! How comfortable is the august? Ive considered this jacket multiple times
Thank you, Caber. It's of course quite stiff (it press on the chest when zipped up wearing a thin sweater) and the armholes seem to be a bit low (I took my size), but it remains comfortable and the little adjustable straps on each side do have a big influence on how fitted you want to feel in your jacket. The only real complaint I have would be the sleeves, which are shorter than I asked (0,5" margin of error), but that's a variable.

No issues with it pressing on your neck or shoulders?

Actually, yes, just a bit when I bend my arms. But I put the blame on the lack of breaking. As I am not yet accustomed to aero leather's jacket, I may be wrong, I don't know.

Hang in there man. I have a coworker in Shanghai, she said it's been tough with basic food staples during the lockdown. Hopefully they bring it under control soon.

My new Montgomery Ward-nothing like putting on an old horsehide that's about my age. Smells like old Horsehide and a bar. Nothing like the smell of old horsehide in the morning.

Wanna be old school cool? This is THE look for which to strive. Jeans that show some wear. Same with the shoes/boots. Hair that is natural, not coifed. Throw in a wallet chain if you'd like. Bravo!

I used to have a strong preference for single piece back designs in my leather jackets because I wanted to highlight the beauty of the hide used. Recently I’ve been delving into more intricate backs like this Johnson Leathers Aviator Cross Zip. I have something along those lines being built as we speak by a different maker and, needless to say, I’m very excited.

Just for fun today, here is the comparison of the Aero 101J in jerky. Ken nailed the cut on this. So close to the original with the just right amount of tweaks to the dimensions to make it work best for leather. 22 3/4” back

great looks all around. Glad the jacket was a good fit for you. And yeah, that leather version is spot on. Wow what a great jacket. I ended up grabbing a Bravestar version of the lee 101j. Definitely longer and trimmer sleeves. I need to post a pic of that here. I still have another original one from the lates 70s/early 80s too for when I'm feeling old school LOL.
