Speaking of brown Cals....I’ve been super busy and haven’t had time. But there’s going to be an entire metric ton of goodies I’ll be putting up in the classifieds and a brown Cal just might be there. M-1951. Thrift store find from yesterday. MINT condition. Seriously appears to have never been worn.

It has an aluminum zipper with snap-closure front placket, two drawstrings, and the bottom pockets are wool-lined.

Does anyone know how to date these? I included pics of the interior labels as thumbnails for reference.

I think the March 13, 1952 date is the date that the contract was accepted. So it could have been made from then until several years later, depending on the length of term of the contract.

Very, very windy here today. Leather would have been a good choice, but I wanted to try out my Filson rig for the first time of the season.

I was wondering what to do with those. They bunch the sleeves a bit if I have them all the way zipped, and I'm kind of an all-or-nothing guy so I didn't try finding a middle position, but if that's what I'm supposed to do I'll fiddle with it.

Yeah. I prefer to zip them until the sleeves ride on the first knuckle on my thumb for best mobility. When you start using the jacket like that I would think the leather is thick enough to start creasing the sleeves inside of your elbow which will set the length even better.
