Came across some pics of this goatskin jacket from Brunello Cucinelli with a camp collar. I really liked it, though I would probably delete the front-pockets. Somehow the buttons make it seem more "sartorial" then most leather jackets. The jacket resembles leather car coats like the Schott 544 a bit, but it is somehow shorter and more fitted, which I greatly prefer.

Many leather jackets, especially in black, have a certain rakish or grungy look, but to me this jacket gives a very classy vibe. Was thinking of asking JL if they can make something like this. What do you guys think?

I think that if you like the idea and the look, go for it.

Never ask anybody if the things you like are alright. Just like the things you like and enjoy them.

Nobody else's opinions matters one bit.

Well, I was really asking you guys if you like the look or not. Curious what people think about this style.

Can't speak to that jacket in particular as I don't know the brand, but I do like the camp collar shape. I like it on a shirt that I plan to wear tieless: folded out over jacket collar, a much nicer look than it just looking like I've forgotten to wear a tie. On a jacket I like it for the opposite reason: it enhances the overall look when worn with a collar an tie underneath. I have my eye on a black Aero Rockafella for this reason once I can manage the finances.

I like the collar, I have a few vintage jackets with similar collar.

However I think the jacket is either too short or too long. This is entirely my own taste, it's not a judgment on the jacket itself. I would say that for the "classy vibe" you're looking for, a bit longer would be better.

I think with that type of collar with a more relaxed fit would look better with a slightly longer length, giving it a better balance. If the jacket was more fitted, a shorter length will work.

More leather for the same price (hopefully), you can trim the collar with a pair of scissors and covert it to a normal collar. (don't do this)

I think its a good look, though I prefer a zipper over buttons for several reasons. My recently-acquired Schotts 246 and 546 are not very dissimilar to what you are considering, though they are longer by a few inches.

There are three points about the jacket you posted that I would like to comment on from my own perspective.

1. Regarding the brand, Brunello Cucinelli is an Italian luxury house. I have always liked the suits they make and have been considering buying one myself. However, the brand is quite different from Freewheelers, Fine Creek, Rainbow Country, and the other leather-jacket makers frequently discussed on TFL.

Brunello Cucinelli belongs more to the world of Italian quiet luxury, where the appeal comes from the quality of the materials, the strength of the brand, and a more contemporary design language. This is quite different from the heritage, motorcycle, and pure vintage character associated with the brands mentioned above. For that reason, any assessment of the jacket will inevitably depend on one’s personal style. In my case, I am more firmly on the heritage side.

2. Regarding the jacket itself, goatskin, as described, is a practical and versatile choice. It is soft, has a natural sheen, and is tougher than lambskin, while remaining lighter than horsehide, deerskin, or cowhide. Personally, when looking at luxury brands, I tend to prefer calfskin.

One detail I noticed is that the jacket appears to be constructed from several joined leather panels. You can see the seams across the chest and on the back. In my opinion, given the price of Brunello Cucinelli leather jackets, often starting at around $8,000, the use of larger, cleaner sections of hide would feel more appropriate and better justify the price.

3. Regarding the collar design, I agree with you that it gives the jacket a more sartorial appearance than most leather jackets. The use of buttons instead of a zipper also makes it feel more elegant, particularly when worn with tailored trousers and a shirt.

Some people may be concerned about wind protection, but I also wear button-front leather jackets while riding a motorcycle and have not noticed a significant difference compared with zip-front jackets. I currently own a similar jacket, the Double Helix Rider Unus.

As I said at the beginning, this is only my personal opinion.

I once read that people form their first impression of us within the first three or four seconds. However, you are the one wearing the jacket for the entire day. So wear the jacket that makes you feel most comfortable and confident, and do not worry too much about what other people may think.
