Tooks some comparison photos of my leather jeans from Vanson, my 25oz pair from Pinion (darker) and my 17oz pair from Strike Gold (lighter) today as the lighting looked great (in my childrens bedroom while they are in the kindergarten..).
I've realy embraced the leather jeans for every day wear this winter.

Grab a 50-100eur Vanson pair from JP and enjoy the experiment knowing you got the best of the best unless you want more color or teacore.

Yeah no $500. I'm down to buy cool looking Iron Hearts or Freenotes second hand at half the price, but no more new jeans in the $300+ range.

I bought these 13oz Full Count Modestos in size 33 when they were out of all other sizes (since restocked in this denim after they told me they wouldn’t, grrrr). I love the high rise and the wide leg, but the top block is definitely a size too big (waistband, hips and seat). My belt can hold them up, but there is a lot of excess fabric throughout the top block.

I could cut my losses and get a size down, but then the rise and legs will also size down. I’ve been looking at some of the good denim alterations places like Denim Surgeon and Williamsburg and thinking about sending them in for alteration - maybe 1.5” from the waist and 2” from the hips? But I know that can also throw off the pocket alignment and potentially ruin them. What do you think?

Give them a hot soak and a tumble dry turned inside out. I've done this many times and it didn't ruin the jeans as others will claim.

They don't exceedingly large in my opinion.

Sorry, should’ve added that I already gave the top block a hot soak and dry with a hot hairdryer. These are the ‘13oz rinse’ denim, which really doesn’t have much stretch or shrink left in them by the time they are sewn-up.

Sell them. Cut your losses. Try a different cut.

That looks like a lot more excess fabric than 1.5" off the waist band would fix.

Maybe the cut simply isn't right for your build?

Any more than 1.5 to 1.75 inches and they will be too tight! It’s really the hips/seat that have far too much room. I do love the high rise and wide legs though - hence considering altering rather than sizing down

FWIW, I think they look fine. I'd wear them.

That said, I like a looser cut and prioritize comfort. Im not in the buy a size or two down and hope they stretch with wear camp.

I’m kinda the same. The fit is ok on these, with a belt to hold them up. It’s only with a tucked shirt that the big top block is obvious. I’m more inclined to keep them than gamble on another pair, though I do wish they were a bit slimmer up top

I’d wear them as well. I actually do it myself. I‘ve got a couple of full count jeans on the loser side and I do wear them. Enjoy your jeans, they really deserve it. My five cents.

I will. Just debating whether it’s worth trying to take them in a bit up top.

I had 2 inches taken by expert hands from the waist of my Full count, 1201 -20 U.S. Army Chino 41 (from 34” to 32”). No problems with pocket alignment.
I made no alterations on my jeans though.

I also have some Freenote Ortega pants with the same issue, they just run a little big in the top block, and I decided what I am going to do is add a cinch back to them using leftover fabric from the hem I had done. If you haven’t hemmed them and have room to, then you can consider this. I already bought the rivets and buckle for the cinch, just need a tailor to sew it up. That will help bring in the extra fabric and not have to solely rely on the belt to do all the work.

I think you’re going to love them. I’m really happy with mine. The measurements from F&P were correct, I was just hoping for a little shrinkage in the waist. I also focused on the waist and overlooked how much they flair out at the hips.
