cool jeans congrats!

I think that guy has a hoarding problem. how unique a raw jeans can be that you would need ten of thousands of samples of jeans the actual wornout pants, preferably unwashed... from around the world :confused: it's hard to call it a museum when the pants are in stacks and in boxes probably never have the time to categorized and cataloque them at all since he hikes mountains all the time.

Of course he has a hoarding problem :)
I like his idea to send him every (worn) jeans for the museum instead of throwing it away...
For months now he is sorting, categorizing and cataloging all the jeans and denim jackets for the museum. He is doing that in his free time. As far as I know there is no sponsoring of brands or foundations for his museum. It's a one man show for the love of denim - maybe you could say for a fetish of denim :)

I like the Swiss Alps outline on the back pockets.
Me too - and all the small little details like his name on the back pocket or the diary of wearing. Actually it's a jeans from a freak for freaks (I don't consider myself as a Jeans freak as I have no ideas about it ;)).

I like that lately some jeans brands have a page on their website to show the worn out sample of their jeans, either sent by their customers during their promotional campaign (send your wornout jeans of the same brand of course to get a big discount for a new one) or from competition events. those photos are useful to me as I never wear my jeans hard enough to fade them.

I still suspect those people with incredible fades within 8 months of wear is rubbing their jeans with microfiber cloth or kitchen mittens while wearing it. I live in the same country supposedly / mythically would fade everything denim within one year according to heddels, now I have 3 jeans in 3 and half years now, all 3 look new despite I wear them almost daily.

I find just as raw jeans are starting to show good fades the crotch tends to blow out, which is annoying. And that's when I've tried wearing jeans with infrequent washing (which I wouldn't try again).

Why would you not wash infrequently? Do you feel this brings an early demise to the crotch?

probably has to do with starch in raw denim forcing the jeans to crease on those set creases spot only while area surrounding it remains rigid, thus also helping creating strong fades when creasing is concentrated on those fold lines only as more rubbing to the surface of those set in creases erodes away the blue dye creating stark contrast. if you wash the jeans often these starch gets diluted and the jeans feels softer and less rigid, and so they crease more randomly not weakening a particular spot anymore.

I don't buy the bacteria theory, since I suppose most people wear underwear and so we shed more skincells on the leg part rather than the crotch, if the bacteria is the culprit then you would expect the leg part would get damaged more than the crotch since all the dead skincell is food to them, but the worn blownout part is always the crotch where most creases intersect an most rubbing happens, so I blame starch, and perhaps archaic very 2 dimensional pattern with less room for seat area on most raw denim jeans, seems like raw denim pants that fit our waistline would be digging into our butt , while modern jeans from mall, have a seat room behind and not digging into our butt similar to elbow room on riding jacket.

Not for crotch reasons- I just prefer fresh smelling clothes!

Hand washing in the sink/bath, as opposed to machine washing, does seem to work well with jeans. Never tumble dry them... The crease lines all seem to stay in place after a soak.

I bath wash mine (more of a soak and gentle agitation) a good rinse and then air dry. I wfh so very light wear and only out on walks. I seem to be washing a pair about once every two months.

They get hung by a belt loop on a door coat hook when not worn and I am pretty convinced that the airflow minimises any bacteria growth / odour.

I had on RRL waist overalls today, not technically jeans though they made a denim version this year. Otherwise I’ve been wearing my repro Lee Cowboy jeans a lot. I love this design and denim… though unfortunately the repro I bought to replace them is too big, so on the sale pages it goes.

£400 is $550, so quite a lot more than $250. If they sold them for the same price in Japan I wouldn't begrudge it the same, but they don't, and things like that irk me.

That’s because “Iron Heart” UK was just a sketchy retailer that strong armed the Japanese into officially making them part of the company and being granted a monopoly on international IH sales. That’s why everywhere else in the world is now subject to IHUK markup. The only circumstance in which I can see myself buying IH with a clear conscience is in Japan. (And let’s not forget IHUK’s involvement in something else…)

I got myself a present. One pair of "the Swiss Jeans Freak" birthday jeans.

Ruedi Karrer, the "Swiss Jeans Freak" runs the Jeans Museum in Zürich. From their homepage: "The Jeans Museum in Zurich is the world’s only brand-independent museum for heavily faded denim. It is currently home to over 14.000 jeans and denim jackets. All naturally faded. The Jeans Museum was founded by Ruedi Karrer, also known as the Swiss Jeans Freak. Ruedi was born in the Swiss Alps in 1959. He fell in love with denim in 1973 when his family received two pairs of Levi’s jeans in a clothing donation parcel."
Homepage: The Jeans Museum

The Jeans (also from the homepage):
"On September 8, 2019, Ruedi turned 60 years old. To celebrate this milestone and realise a life-long dream, he partnered with Candiani Denim and IMjiT35020 to create 60 pairs of completely custom-made jeans."

As I live near Zurich, I donated several old, well worn jeans to the museum. So I wondered what his own jeans would be.

It's a high rise, straight cut jeans. I look forward to break it in!

I hope they didn’t come pre pee soaked. I’m still traumatized by that…

IH UK, which is also inferior in aesthetic tastes compared to the HQ in Japan. But I’m not talking about aesthetics.
I, too, am curious.
They were the main outside help in the theft from and defrauding of Aero, then as soon as their guys were fired, they became partners with the hipster-crook offshoot.

Pre pee soaked?
Fortunately the jeans are brand new...

Reudi famously gives jeans a piss soak, then lets the piss container boil in the sun, for ‘patina’. IIRC he doesn’t wash his jeans off after this ‘process’ either.

Incidentally, for anyone new to raw/old school denim:

  • Never washing is nonsense
  • Washing doesn’t take away wear lines
  • Washing strengthens your jeans
  • My best fades are on frequently washed jeans
  • The weird mid 2000s denim head myths like using the freezer are bunk
  • The Japanese denim enthusiasts machine wash their jeans and get very confused with western weebs’ washing habits

IH-U.K. are/were connected to Alexander Leather/ Simmons-Bilt?

Yeah, they were Lauder’s off the books customer for Aero jackets, then after he was fired from Aero they made AL their partner, then after the rebrand they stuck with SB because the rest of the crew was there even with Will’s firing.

This level of voodoo (piss soak, never washing, freezing) even exceeds $30,000 "audiophile" audio cables. LOL.

Lol! Okay, this I have not heard but that's some pure autism level of bs right there. How the hell did he come up with that imbecilic idea!? Isn't piss basically some ammonium, sodium, magnesium and choride? Why not just soak it into all that stuff mixed up?

I'm tellin' you guys, socks and sandals.

Can absolutely confirm this about washing and fades - After reading an article upon article on how one should never wash their jeans in order to make them look good, I spent close to 6 months in my Norse Projects, prior to finally soaking them once and all that time, they haven't changed one bit - Except in ways I anticipated but didn't much care for.

I've since machine-washed these same jeans every two or three weeks, detergent and all and they're seriously worthy of a feature on Daily Fadez right now.

Machine washing can stamp in those long-ass lines but honestly, I don't give a crap, as long as the jeans are clean and smell good.

Plus, every single pair of jeans I had keep the shape the first three or four wears. After that, I might as well be wearing sweat pants.

Speaking of IH, you read how they got scammed by some trolls, losing a good few grand of worth in gear?

Oh, but you are wrong. Urine contains over 3,000 compounds and metabolites, and everyone knows that it is those compounds present at 0.0000000000001% that are responsible for the Sick Fadez. So piss away...:)

My exp with most jeans is a loss of shape also, sweatpants is a good description.

Very pleased that neither of my IH pairs have gone that way.
