View attachment 228819 View attachment 228820 View attachment 228821 Greetings All:
Today....inspired to the Max, i’m slummin with Max’s half brother.
The Beaver 50. As fine a felt as one could ask.
This one has a crease that is probably my overall favorite. Not my doing, it just does itself.
Churchill days are good for the soul.
Still good here in Almost Heaven country.
Be well and safe.
Bowen
Ps: i noticed that’s another Churchill over my shoulder. It owns the four dent!
B

Stunning Bowen, and that is a fabulous crease. May have to try to copy it.....

Wearing my first real Panama Hat today. Well, not sure if it is really real since it’s made in Puerto Rico instead of Ecuador, but is handmade using the authentic techniques. I was researching Ole’s shop, since they are recommended for a good cheaper priced Panama, when I found this one on ebay for $20. Looks brand new and about $100 new for the intermediate quality. Seems pretty nice to start with until I can find a good deal on a finer grade Montecristi.

Early morning dog soiree in an Adams fedora.

I am confident that in bits and bobs it is apparent that I have a lot of energy. I am the one who hops out of bed and is moving right away. My wife, sequestered with me, has been getting annoyed with my energy. In recognition of my idiosyncrasy, I offer apologies in advance to forum members, just like I do to my beloved wife. During this unusual time, my energies have me posting more often. I am up to a couple of runs, a couple walks, a couple of dog soirees and still able to stay to outside chores. Crazy, but I think of the quote that was attributed to Winston Churchill, "Never let a good crisis go to waste"."

Warmer 40'f temps found me enjoying breakfast on the deck. Yes this hat is a Whippet. Unique stingy brimmed hat from Australia. A stingy Whippet.

After a short run I went out to check the bird feeders wearing a medium gray Stetson Stratoliner.

My legs were stiff from exercising so I took a relaxing walkabout the local neighborhoods in a Stetson Stratoliner in sage green.

I took the time to add a pin I sourced to the hat. After seeing Alan's Stratoliners with the curled side brim, I too will try it by storing the hat in an original box.

I headed over to my brothers house to drop off some groceries. He is on the last days of Covid recovery. A Cordova Cap seemed appropriate.

Another el-cheapo I have plans for. View attachment 229172 Inside of that grey sock is a splinter left hand. Trying to keep the splint clean and pretty.
I believe I have a fracture in a wrist bone but because of a severe wrist shatter close to 40 years ago the x-rays were inconclusive. Setting an appt. with a hand surgeon tomorrow. If those small bones die it's goodbye to the use of my hand.

Man, sorry to hear about the hand. Hope all goes well.

Can't go wrong for $20, Tim. I think the leather crown patch is a neat touch.

After the English it is up to the French. Having been at war once for 116 years one could say there was a bit of rivalry between them. Not as many in my collection from France, because it seems the good ones are quite hard to come by. I do see quite a few hats of their sixties and seventies output, which is not their best, suffering from questionable fashion choices to absolutely awful sweatband materials. However, if they were good, they were very good indeed. Heck; they taught Guiseppe Borsalino how to make hats, so they knew a thing or two.
First off: Fléchet Escapade in the colour granit.

I'm certain it's a real Panama from Ecuador. Pretty much all hatter source these bodies from Ecuador, then finish the hat. Same w/ Ole.

Now you have to get down there and see him in person. And drink some rum.

Nice granit Flechet, Stefan!
I picked up an old one (guessing 40s/early 50s) last week and I can definitely agree with you on their top knotch old vintage materials and build quality!
Except, because of bad storage practices it didn’t age well and the binding and hatband had dry rotted and ripped.
Oh well. I got it at a low price and it gave me a chance to do some custom ribbon work on a very fine hat with incredible felt.
Here’s a hint of what this Flechet is going to end up looking like:

Had to work from home today, was in a bit of a funk and the sweats just weren't cutting it. Spent most of the weekend spreading loam with the backhoe, best I've felt in weeks!
