What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Janyška "?" possibly late 1930s early 1940s. Again the model name was blurred on the paper. The stone gray color is great. The felt is very pliable and easily dry creases. I am pretty sure this hat was worn brim up. Unfortunately the band/ribbon was damaged from stacking. This hat is from my June 2015 NOS Czech find. This is my final entry of the series.

This week I highlighted Janyška & Cie. from Czechoslovakia. Janyška & Cie. was started in the 1920s in Valašské Meziříčí – Krásno about 25 km from Nový Jičín (location of JHS, BB, AP). Janyška & Cie. was a Czech company based on Austrian hat tradition. Janyška & Cie. became Tonak Factory 2 post WWII and the factory was closed 1961.

These rare stills are from a film that was made in 1943 by Janyška & Cie. that shows the old felt and hat making methods. Radek Polach (Muzeum Novojičínska) sent me copy these photos back March 2014.

They do. I was really pretty depressed yesterday but today I was considering taping a push stick to my forearm for table saw work. I'm optimistic, and worst case scenario I might have been born without use of it
Up until now I'm an extremely resilient SOB. There were pirates that had one leg and Rooster Cogburn only had one eye.

Thanks! The Janyška film was supposedly restored by Czech Archives a few years ago but I haven't seen a copy. You can see (link below) parts of this very rare film in this Panniza video from Museo dell’Arte del Cappello di Ghiffa. The scratchy sepia toned film sections starting at 5:34 are from Janyška film. The entire video is interesting. I purchased the DVD when I visited the Museo dell’Arte del Cappello di Ghiffa with Daniele back in March 2017.

Today....in the spirit of week longs and 30 in 30s i’ll do my part with a week of Churchills all be it abbreviated.
The week started yesterday and ends today with a sugar white ORish 4 dent. Much more pliable felt than the 50 but impressive felt the same. It came pre-dented too. Must be a Churchill thing.
Well, week over or better said weak over.

Same hat as yesterday. I just don’t want the barbecue smells getting in my other hats. My first time doing pizza in my Weber. It won’t be the last. The charcoal and peach wood took it to a whole new level compared to the oven.

Going retro with this pair.
The Stetson hails from the 20s, or so.
The Dobbs is from early 40s, maybe late 30s. The direct opposite of the bowler; this felt is so light and floppy!
I’ve noticed a few folks having hat band ribbons with “basting stitches” left in around the top of the ribbon edge. I’m not so convinced that they’re basting stitches. Maybe it is temporary stitching, but after installing several hatbands now, it doesn’t make sense why anyone would use basting to hold the top of a ribbon that is “supposed to be removed later, but was forgotten.” View attachment 228711

The thread used to hold down this ribbon is so thin and hard to see that I just noticed it this week!
always thought if I ever ended up with a hat that had these left in they would get removed, but these are so inconspicuous that I’ll leave them be, for the sake of originality preservation.

2 more fabulous ones Randall. Strange about the stitches. Now that you mention it, I have noticed a few like that. I have a Lee with a black band and a couple of white thread stitches on it. I was thinking of removing them, but just carefully went over them with a Sharpie.....
