@deadlyhandsome : After going in for a close up, I noticed the texture of the brim binding being something different than the usual grosgrain. What, exactly, am I looking at?

I'm not much for western style hats, but I think I'd call this one a thin ribboned, wide brimmed lords hat and wear it anyway. Splendid, Jared.

This hat has a pretty light weight felt that will blow right off my head if the trade winds are blowing, but it is a nice "tropical" weight before I switch over to straw.

Today....in the spirit of week longs and 30 in 30s i’ll do my part with a week of Churchills all be it abbreviated.
The week started yesterday and ends today with a sugar white ORish 4 dent. Much more pliable felt than the 50 but impressive felt the same. It came pre-dented too. Must be a Churchill thing.
Well, week over or better said weak over.

Out early afternoon for a long walkabout wearing a Stetson Stratoliner.

Evening, post dinner salad, walk in a Stetson Stratoliner in a camel hued felt. Betwenn the time I put the hat on and got home the crown took a bang. This was not a deliberate opportunity to channel Pharrel Williams.

Hats get worn, even with crazy creases.

Another el-cheapo I have plans for. View attachment 229172 Inside of that grey sock is a splinter left hand. Trying to keep the splint clean and pretty.
I believe I have a fracture in a wrist bone but because of a severe wrist shatter close to 40 years ago the x-rays were inconclusive. Setting an appt. with a hand surgeon tomorrow. If those small bones die it's goodbye to the use of my hand.

After the English it is up to the French. Having been at war once for 116 years one could say there was a bit of rivalry between them. Not as many in my collection from France, because it seems the good ones are quite hard to come by. I do see quite a few hats of their sixties and seventies output, which is not their best, suffering from questionable fashion choices to absolutely awful sweatband materials. However, if they were good, they were very good indeed. Heck; they taught Guiseppe Borsalino how to make hats, so they knew a thing or two.

I took the time to add a pin I sourced to the hat. After seeing Alan's Stratoliners with the curled side brim, I too will try it by storing the hat in an original box.

Wearing my first real Panama Hat today. Well, not sure if it is really real since it’s made in Puerto Rico instead of Ecuador, but is handmade using the authentic techniques. I was researching Ole’s shop, since they are recommended for a good cheaper priced Panama, when I found this one on ebay for $20. Looks brand new and about $100 new for the intermediate quality. Seems pretty nice to start with until I can find a good deal on a finer grade Montecristi.

Nice, I bought a Ole Panama hat on ebay a couple of weeks ago and I'm actually very pleased with it. It doesn't have the leather crown cap in it, but it did say it was made in Ecuador though. Enjoy

I'm certain it's a real Panama from Ecuador. Pretty much all hatter source these bodies from Ecuador, then finish the hat. Same w/ Ole.

Now you have to get down there and see him in person. And drink some rum.

It is seemingly invariable that whenever I find a two-for or a three-for deal that there is one in the group I had my eye on as the reason for the purchase... however upon arrival a different hat turns out to be the real star. In this case... I had my eye on the brown Knox Flying Cloud as I have a grey one I really like and thought it would be a good companion. After arrival though it became apparent the hat I thought From the sellers photos was just another short brim black hat was actually the star of the show.

both hats were purchased from Jacob Reed’s Sons in Philadelphia, PA and both had an original retail price of $30 marked down to $15. My guess on these two hats would be late 1960s or early 1970’s.

I am not sure if the feathers will remain on this one... though in this photo they actually look nicer than I had thought. I think I did trim some of it off upon arrival.
