Stratcat, that is a great look! I joined not too long ago and wondered the same thing - with a limited number of hats, would I be welcome to post repeat wearings? The camaraderie here is so cool, I sort of wanted to be a part of it, if you know what I mean. The members were very welcoming. "No problem, just use a different angle and background." Or "That's OK, we like to see pictures of hats." I really appreciated it!

Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. I'll try to get more pics sorted and join in the fun. I didn't manage one today, way too wet and windy to hang around snapping selfies.

Josh, Thanks! Yes this one has a deep cupped flange that creates a big swoop. Also a heavier weight felt that isn't kind to dry side denting but not lacking in quality .

I always loved the thicker felt (especially the long hairs and velours) from the Austrian/German companies. Its substantial, soft, but never over stiff. Many American hat companies went to some pretty thick felt in the 70's, 80's, and 90's and loaded the bodies with shellac. I don't care for those at all, but a vintage thicker European hat body is very nice.

I have a few vintage fedoras, but I bought them on my own w/o advice or assistance from anyone. The hats do look and feel different, better than any modern hat I've tried. And I've tried (and purchased) a lot of retail hats. But I'm still not sure what to look for in vintage. Maybe when my custom hats arrive in a few weeks I'll learn some more about the virtues of fine hats! Other than that, I'll hope for a GTG on the East Coast sometime!

Most of my vintage hats are from Austrian and German makers. I like all types of hats (soft and stiff) but my favorites are old (pre 1940) city dress Austrian and German Velours. I could bring some of my collection to a East Coast GTG.

OCMH - that's a mighty fine looking bowler, and a great color.

Joao - both of the westerns are nice, but I like the panda best. Wish I could pull off the look, but westerns just don't suit me.

It's a brisk 9 degrees this morning at the office. Pulled out the long coat and scarf, topped with the caribou Stetson.

For a bit of irony, I decided to wear one of my 80's Tobasco ties to offset the cold.
